To be fair, Lebron hadn’t hadn’t taken the league over by year 2 of his career. Zion has actually had a better start to his career individually perhaps than any player in NBA history. Of course the Pels are a dumpsterfire organizationally and have a young roster of misfits and you also have clowns like Lebron and Kyrie actively ruining the league by acting like they are intellectuals instead of hoopers.

Long story short, I think Luka, Giannis, and Zion can drive interest to the league into the next generation. I think people will actually start watching more once Lebron retires. A lot of fans have grown fatigued with the way the league is today and a lot of that is due to Lebron evolving from mostly likeable to an insufferable prick.

Christian Wood is the next star for the rockets. Give him a few more young players and they’ll make noise soon. The new coach wasn’t given a fair chance. One more full year for him.

I was a diehard fan of the Bad Boys Pistons of the mid-00s and a casual fan of Lebron-Wade-Bosh Heat (watched all playoff games and big regular season matchups).

Things that killed the NBA for me:

1. Analytics convinced teams to exclusively shoot 3s and to flop for FTs

2. Superteams began being promoted by the media - daily, we were inundated with why Star X, Y, Z needed to go to New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles.

3. The closest thing to a moment that shut the door totally for me was LeBron going back to Cleveland. It felt 100% orchestrated by Nike, ESPN, LeBron, and the NBA. The "narrative" was so fricking phony, so transparent. The entire industry colluded to crown LeBron as bigger than his teammates, bigger than his team, bigger than the League itself. And sports media jizzed about it for like 4 years.

4. Plays off #3. I absolutely fricking loathe sports media, and the NBA media works the shaft and swallows the gravy of the most insufferable pricks in all of sports - players, coaches, NBA admins, and other reporters.

Solid post and I agree whole heartedly. But I had forgotten until you said it how entertaining inside the NBA can be with Kenny, Chuck and Shaq!!!!

Was a NBA fan and a huge Laker fan. Was a regular game thread poster on here. Started many a NBA thread on this board, (looking at you James Harden). But I haven’t watched a single game since before the bubble last year and I haven’t posted much about the game since then either.

All the recent political/ SJW stuff turned me completely off and made me lose any interest I had in their game. And to be honest, I haven’t really missed it.

I’ll occasionally scan a NBA thread on here or read a related story on-line, but that thirst for the game is gone. Sometimes I’ll watch some of Inside the NBA if it is on while flipping the channels. Not for highlights but to see Chuck and crew cut up. But the religious viewing of all things NBA is gone.

That could be permanent or temporary. IDK. I think something will eventually switch my interest back on and I’ll start watching again. I just don’t know what that will be though. I can tell you that my favorite team winning the title last year didn’t do it.

Pretty much me, minus the Lakers Fandom. I was a HUUUUGE LeBron fan. I, along with C on Z and others, used to make thread after thread supporting and/or defending him.

I started to lose interest with LeBron and the fake hate crime shite. Then the guy is out there doing interviews about every political issue in the world. The shilling for China turned me against James, finally. Just couldn't support him anymore. Then came the NBA ejecting fans wearing "Free Hong Kong" shirts. That killed it, for me. Just couldn't support such an Anti-American, Pro-Totalitarian organization anymore.

It truly surprises me how little I miss it. . .and how nauseous the guy, who used to be my favorite player, makes me.

Has anyone else lost total interest in the NBA? I was never an avid watcher but for sure occasional to moderate. It’s not just one thing specifically that turned me away but I guess just the league as a whole. I did not watch one “bubble game” last year and have not watched a game this year. And I know they could care less about my viewership, I was just wondering what the general consensus was in regards to now versus years past. (Different eras)

I left the PGA at 2 PM and never got back to it. The Milwaukee vs Miami matchup promises to be a great series as well as Mavericks and Clippers. More great matchups to come today with the Lakers, Hawks, and who knows who else.

In short: It must be you.

Yeah my interest level in the NBA died off in the late '90s.

The last time I watched an NBA finals game I want to say it was a few years ago when the cavaliers rallied to beat the warriors after falling behind 3-0 in that series.

I could say about the same for baseball. I watched a lot of braves and Cubs back in the 90s because those two teams were always on TV either on WGN or TBS.

All I really keep up with now is college football and the NFL and I don't keep up with them like I used to

I ignore the "league" and just watch games. I've watched pretty much every Mavs game over the last 30 years. I just love basketball and the Mavs are my fav team. Nothing NBA human beings, or the league/media, do actually matters enough to let them ruin it for me.

He scored 25 in his first NBA game and came in second of MVP voting in year 3 averaging over 30 a game. He had the whole leagues eye on him from day 1.

Zion missed most of his first season

Foreign guys never move the needle. Has to be an American, IMO. The only foreign guy I can think of that really drives American interest is Federer. I'm sure there are others, but quiet Giannis in Milwaukie isn't going to do it or he would have already done it.

And for those that can't, it's only because they weren't interested, to begin with.

I still can't figure out where all the indignation is for our favorite football team when they were doing their version of BLM, including the head coach. Oh, to be a sport's fan, fickle is thy name.

The last 5-8 years of the NBA has been one of the better eras of hoops. Only topped by t90s GOAT era IMO

The level of play is insane

Agreed, I think because of the platform college ball gives them and seeing them in the final four etc.

I am not a fan of all the politics. I’m not a “shut up and dribble guy” but I watch sports for the entertainment. I could care less, their race, religion, or their political affiliations.

Well it sucks that the Pelicans have been gifted two superstars and seemingly go out of their way to frick up the roster around them.

Then how much interest did you really have in the game? It is possible to tune that stuff out and just watch the sport. It’s entertainment, I find it funny that people walk away from something they enjoy because the opinions of the athlete/actor/musician or whatever.
