Absorbing a bad contract from another team trying to create space and you’re getting sweetener with it, typically draft picks.
This is just an example but Cody Zeller’s deal with Charlotte is considered bad, so Charlotte would send a protected first rounder with him for the Pels to take it on in exchange for a heavily protected second rounder or cash or something

An example is when the Nets traded for D-lo by also taking on the contract of Asik.

A lot of teams regret overpaying role players. They may still be useful but they probably make $5-$10 million too much for their role. Assuming the contract is only for a year or two, three at the most, the Pelicans can take that player into cap space -- so they don't have to send significant money back -- in exchange the team shedding said player would give a couple of picks along with the player. Then the team shedding the bad contract would be free to overpay somebody else.

The Suns have interest in D'Angelo Russell. But they don't have cap space to sign him. They would send Tyler Johnson (making 20 mil and should only make around 8-10) + a future first round pick or De'Anthony Melton or something the Pels might want to dump that salary. Then, with the 20 million they cleared, they'd go offer D'Angelo Russell a max deal.

One that just happened is that the Hawks wanted to move up to number 4 in the draft so they took Solomon Hill's contract into cap space from the Pelicans as part of the deal

Brad Turner covers the Lakers for the LA Times. It's more likely he's getting the info from a source inside the org of the team he's covering.

But that's not my point. I'm not saying that the leaks are credible. I'm saying that the Lakers have more people in their organization leaking shite than most other franchises do.

I definitely agree with your point about Kawhi’s camp not leaking shite. I was listening to Russillo/Simmons pod early this morning and Russillo was talking about how every front office guy he knows basically told him “don’t believe anyone who says they know what he’s going to do, because he doesn’t talk to anyone or tell anyone”

And I'm saying the actual reliable people, like Ramona, are saying the organization is doing everything it can to keep a tight lid on leaks since the whole magic disaster and that the people that usually very reliable with info, like Ramona, are saying they have been cut off
Could be bullshite I guess, but I dont think the simple reporting of player targets suggests leaks from the organization as those can come from anywhere. The Sam amick article I can totally see as a leak and I can take back my original take and replace it with "they arent being nearly as loose as they have in the past"
