If I'm netting 9 figures either way, does ~11 million really matter? Like if he wants Toronto, would the 11 million really hurt so much that he chooses lakers/clippers?

It all depends on his residency for taxes...his full-time residency will be California regardless, so he may not have to pay taxes regardless. I don't think that part matters in the slightest.
