Almost that time of the year again

Looking at the contestants and this stood out to me...

I could maybe do the 25 jalapeno poppers in 5 minutes. I don't think I could do anything else on there in 5 minutes let alone all of it. But I am a slow eater

I wish I could get the announcer to narrate my life.

Anyone like me and thinks they should change the rules to where you have to eat a hot dog as they were meant to be eaten and not choking down weiners and water soaked buns separately?

What Nathan’s did to Kobayashi was a disgrace. The guy literally took a dead, struggling event and made it must see TV.

NYC used to be my annual 4th of July destination. One year I just happened to go out to Coney Island on the 4th to look around. That was by far the most disgusting mass of people I’ve ever seen.

I always wonder how they train for this event... are they just binge eating hod dogs 3 times per week?

I've seen some incredible feats in eating contests over the years and some of them by little women.

One gal, Molly Schuyler polished off a 72 oz. steak in 2:44 at Saylor's Old Country Kitchen in Portland, Oregon.

Another gal, from Arizona stopped at the "Big Texan Steakhouse" in Amarillo, Texas and took on their challenge of eating a 72 oz. steak, loaded baked potato, shrimp salad and bun.

She ate TWO of them and finished in 1:01:24.

Thing is, both these gals were slim and trim, not some beached whale type.

Scouting a food competition a month out. Impressive.

Is there a Mel Kiper of this world? Perhaps that can be you

I dabble in food challenges(no acutal competitions, I've just taken on my fair share of food challenges at various places) and you have to be lean to able to do it because if you have too much fat, it will press up against your stomach and prevent it from being able to expand.

I am 6'2 175, I get told all the time by fat people I need to eat a cheeseburger or two since they think I am so skinny.

Being able to eat a lot is really just about having high leptin levels and being able to expand your stomach.

I've done the Big Texan Challenge in Amarillo in 48 minutes. It wasn't that bad.

Most of my losses in food challenges are not because I was full, but because of flavor fatigue. I failed one challenge that had you eating a lot of fries after a huge burger. I just couldn't anymore with the sodium, my mouth was puckering. I wasn't full as I was able to down one of their milkshakes(not part of the challenge) easily after I quit the challenge just to balance out the salt in my mouth with sugar.

I failed another challenge that featured a big omlette. Not because I was full, but because I didn't let it cool off. They started the timer at the first bite, and my first bite burned my esophagus and tongue so bad and by the time the omlette had cooled down enough to eat 10 minutes had already passed for the 20 minute challenge. I finished it, but past the time limit.

You drink a lot of water in a short period of time to expand your stomach capacity.

For my food challenges I don't really do that much prep(these professional eaters will "train" for weeks), but I fast 24 hours and drink a ton of water before attempting one.

Been there several times and seen it done - absolutely no way I'd be able to clean that plate in two days, much less one hour.
Aside from the steak challenge it is a really good restaurant!
