Rourke's Drift

Last Stand of Fox Company, 2/7 at Toktong Pass (or the whole 1st MarDiv at the Chosin)

Taffy 3

If you do not know all of these, shame on you. Go do yourself a favor. Multiple books on Rourke's Drift, but check out "Last Stand of Fox Company" and "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors."

nobody is saying the eyeball test is fair.

But when the playoff is only 4 teams, and there are 5 Power5 conferences, someone is getting left out.

How do you decide who gets left out?

Base it solely on records? Is that fair, because some conferences are weaker than others.

Football is unique in that there are only 12 regular season games with very, very little cross-conference games. So it's very hard to assess the relative strengths of the conferences. Thus the eyeball test.

But the good news is we'll never have to worry about this again, because of the 12 team playoff next year. Now sure, a committee will ultimately have to decide between 12 and 13, but that's far down the list. Much like the March Madness Committee deciding between 64 and 65.

It’s the fairest way. Or at least the least subjective. Especially when 1 team is undefeated and 2 others have 1 loss (and one of those losses was head to head with another playoff team)

ok, we'll base it on records.

Why does Liberty not get into the playoff?

Don't say they play a softer schedule in a weaker conference, because we're basing it on records so it's the least subjective.

ETA: I've long advocated for a bigger playoff, because 4 is way too small and deserving teams are left out. Thankfully, the 12 teams playoff with some auto bids and some at-large bids (like March Madness) will eliminate much of the subjectivity, or at least limit it to the 12/13 distinction.

I mean, probably like half of all champions outside of CFB.

The "best" team doesn't win it all regularly in most sports.

“LSU / USC, Oklahoma’s Number 3”

That was the cheer in Atlanta when Kansas St kicked Oklahoma’s butt. Had at least 10,000 of us cheering this in the student section. We were flabbergasted when Oklahoma got invited to the dance in the dome. Oklahoma fans in the dome were good guys and gals.. true football fans unlike those one eyed trailer dwellers from Tuscaloosa.

I don’t know what the fairest way is but coming out and saying it was because a kid broke his leg and the whole team wasn’t the same doesn’t seem fair to me. Say it was schedule strength
