Hell, at the rate he's going, he could use the presidency as a stepping stone to something even more awe-inspiring.

Talk about extremes at FSU.

Range from a Rhodes Scholar all the way to guys that are illiterate.

no doubt. Taking it will just be a formality. Isn't Vince Young the only guy to score a 50?

He's the one guy I'd be surprised if he was involved in a scandal.

Dude was an all American... I think he has a better shot at being a contributor than a career back up

I don't know how much impact he would have in the NFL these days, cause of how long he has been away from the game. I doubt he has stayed in football shape.

If he had come straight out of FSU to the NFL he would've been a good if not great one in the NFL.

Being an all-american dosen't guarantee you NFL success.

I guess he was a slight letdown in college football with his hype (number 1 in the ESPN rankings), but he was certainly a good player, earning 2nd team All-ACC as a junior.

As for his impact on the future generations, I think the Wall Street Journal exaggerates it a little bit. Although Shane Battier and Brandon Knight (up to this point) are comparable to Rolle in their academic accomplishments, they don't care as much about their image as Rolle, nor are they as active with their community service. Battier hasn't helped, and while it's too early, I doubt Knight will have much of an impact either. I bet Rolle will be very successful outside of football, but all of these articles most likely overstate his influence and place unrealistic expectations on him.

I bet even a guy like Rolle gets frustrated with the way the media fawns over him ("I can't even spell anthropology").

There needs to be more hype about this guy, particularly in the urban African American communities.

Being the salutatorian at the best private school in Michigan and graduating from Duke with a 3.45 (Rolle graduated from FSU with a 3.75 which is certainly not standard numbers for a Rhodes Scholar, but then again, neither is becoming an All-ACC athlete in a revenue sport). He was also the president of an NCAA organization concerned about academic standards in college basketball (I doubt they did much of anything, or if they did, they clearly had no influence). ETA: Battier initially entertained the idea of following in Bill Bradley's footsteps, focusing on government and aiming for a Rhodes scholarship. He hasn't talked about it much, but he said that he got disillusioned with the media hype surrounding that track.

Knight is one of the top students at Pine Crest, which is arguably the top private school for kids in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. However, he is basically looking to be a one and done in college, as his favorites are Florida, Kentucky, Miami, and Kansas.

Rolle was one of the top students at Hun and Peddie, probably two of the top 3 boarding schools in New Jersey.

They had him on the phone for one of the last games of the season, he has been trainign and working out every day, he even moved his brother over there to train with him. Obviously thats not the same as playing and practicing, but he's trying to stay sharp.

I wonder where he would have been projected if he never went to England. I am guessing 2nd-3rd round in last year's draft, but he would have returned for his senior season.

won't matter

the problem is this thought that hype is needed for this type of social goal-making
