How did people expect the NCAA to enforce anything when the courts ruled they couldnt?

I guarantee that game mattered a lot to a lot of people.

In the moment it sure as shite did. But what did that game do for the overall picture of college football? Nothing. Notre Dame finished the season 11-1, made the playoffs, and managed to advance their way to the national championship game. If they lose that game in 2023 there season is likely over with.

If the NCAA had acted in good faith at all, it may have never made it to the courts

Ill never understand this mindset. So no games that dont affect the championship picture matter? This seems like a spoiled Bama fan position rather than the reality for fans of most schools that will likely never win a championship.

Only 1 team can win so the other 100+ should've just sat the season out?

You play to win the games. Beating Notre Dame as a Northern Illinois fan probably felt the same as winning a championship does to a Bama fan

How many of those "top people" are incoming freshman students?

Watched the College D1A Rugby Playoffs this weekend. It was nice and refreshing to see players playing for the love of the game and not for a payday.

Maybe, maybe not. I wouldn't know. However, what I do know is the Kick Six would not hit as big for Auburn fans had events played out like so:

1. Auburn beats us on what might be the greatest play in the history of college football.

2. Due to the expanded playoff, however, Alabama earns the fifth spot in the 12-team playoff despite losing the final game in heartbreaking fashion.

3. The loss is just what Alabama needed to get their mindset right and they tear through the competition in the playoffs, winning the national championship in the process, and threepeating.

4. As a result, everyone outside the Auburn fan base forgets the Kick Six even happened.

In short, losses used to matter more to BOTH teams.

What does that matter?

No one has a gun to Gordon's head to agree to pay these 17 year old recruits.

Oh, yeah. You definitely can. All you had to do is watch how Jalen Milroe tried to tackle that OU player on his way to the end zone after throwing a pick. It was a half-assed effort.

So no college football players ever gave half assed effort on a play until 2021?

If you are asking whether these member institutions could get together and decide that they will not accept transfers or sign kids that don't have NIL deals, the answer is no. They would be sued into oblivion.

Good thing that's not what I'm asking.

You’re so full of shite. Is there a ton of nonsense that goes on outside of the game like this Nico situation? OF COURSE. But once players are inside those lines they play, at least until it’s not competitive, when they do the same thing players have been doing for a hundred years and mail it in.

The spectacle of bama v Tennessee in neyland this year was something else… and it featured the guy you just mentioned and the one everybody is mad at right now.

Not sure where players think they have leverage in threatening to sit out a playoff game. What team is going to take a guy from the portal and risk him holding them for ransom again come playoff time.

I mean, there has to be a middle ground between this current Wild West system where guys can hold out and demand more money damn near the entire calendar year with unlimited portal hops, and the last system where guys couldn’t have their own monetary YouTube channel or get an off-campus job while the school made millions selling their $100 jersey in the team store. They just went way too far from one direction to the other.

I think everyone agrees it’s in shambles, but how many of us are willing to stop turning on the TV on Saturdays or to refuse to attend games. Not many.

That’s how you change it. Make the money dry up.
