Buzz Capra. 1974 ERA leader
Ralph Garr. NL batting title 1974 (Louisiana native by the way)

Don’t really watch the NBA and barely heard of him. Shows how much attention defense gets in the NBA.

So you never heard of a guy from a league you don't really watch?

To me, Steve Nash as BACK-TO-BACK NBA MVP is crazy.

I wouldn’t say he was a “forgettable” player, though, so I don’t know if it really fits the topic.

The better one for Morneau is that he actually won the Home Run Derby that everyone remembers Josh Hamilton for.

Pretty forgettable. I couldn’t even remember who he played for. Had to look it up.

Eddie Murray had the best batting average in the majors that year, but George Brett & Willie McGee won the batting titles.

After the major leagues

Hamelin abruptly quit his professional baseball career while playing in the minor leagues for the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers AAA Team) in 1999. After grounding out, he went back to the dugout and told manager Gene Roof, "I'm done", ending his professional baseball career as a player.[

I would have loved to have heard that conversation.

Hamelin: "Skip, I'm done"
Manager: "That's cool. Grab a shower and go get 'em tomorrow"
Hamelin: "No, motherfricker. I'm DONE"

Steve Stone won the AL Cy Young in 1980.

He was out of baseball after the 1981 season.

Take out his Cy Young Season, he was 82-86.

He edges out 1983 NL Cy Young winner John Denny, who was 104-102 outside of his one Cy Young season.

I just looked at NL Cy Young winner Mark Davis, and he was incredibly atrocious outside of his ungodly season in 1989. But at least he was an All Star the year before. But the rest of his career--woof.

Thomas Johansson won an Australian Open in tennis. Petr Korda did, too, but people remember him now that his son is a pro and his daughters are pro golfers.

It pains me to say it but Chris Weinke winning the Heisman in 2000. He won that first start for Carolina in an upset of the Vikings in 2001 then lost 15 straight and fell off faster than his hairline

Was Babe Ruth a good player? According to that logic, none of us will ever know.

Wasn’t that the year McGee won it but was traded to Oakland? I seem to recall people throwing a fit that he didn’t finish the year in the league
