I think you were thinking of further south in Connecticut because it’s like two hours from New York City to New Haven.

In New Haven used to be working class shipping town but now it’s just a dump with a really fancy university.

i know a lot of people that say they are in NYC that actually live in New Haven and commute

There’s quite a few extremely nice cities/towns in CT that corporate executives and other wealthy individuals live in and commute to NYC, but New Haven is not one of them.

Types of crimes appear to be greatly ignored here.

What college towns have the highest per capita rate of murders, rape, armed robbery and car jackings?

These lists are stupid. It’s all about how crimes are reported.

way more violence happens in Austin, Miami, Atlanta, LA, Chicago, Houston, (which are all college towns) etc.

It's very, very relative in large cities... In Chicago, DePaul, UIC, University of Chicago, etc., are so far removed from high crime community areas. Neither Hyde Park, Lincoln Park or Near West Side's crime rate per capita come close to any on this list.

That said, this entire article is stupid. In university towns, especially, I'd expect some really dumb crimes to be called in

Clearly they are defining 'college town' in a particular way that doesn't include huge cities or else Memphis, Johns Hopkins, Washington U, and UAB would be an easy top 4.

There is absolutely, no way, in any universe that Logan, UT or Bloomington, IN is remotely close to the top 10 in any crime stat

Wait... so they just picked 26 at random and decided to rank them? That is retarded

And what other towns did they even pick if they still ended up with two Utah towns and Bloomington?

BR is the most dangerous college town I've ever been to. It's a s**thole.

Im not buying Cedar City, UT being on this list and Baton Rouge not being on it. That's completely ridiculous.

This article is politically correct; probably using Biden/Obama fudged FBI numbers.

I've been to Ithaca, sister went to Cornell. You're more likely to fall into a gorge walking home drunk at night then get shot or carjacked.

quote:

Burglaries and thefts from unlocked residences and vehicles are common. While violent crime is relatively low, opportunistic crime can spike during academic breaks when many students leave town.

Shows the complacency and trust of residents. No one is leaving homes and cars unlocked at USC/UCLA or Berkley.... In fact, your dorm will have bars on the window and your car will get stolen no matter what anti-theft devices you install...remember The Club? What a joke.

Between New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut might have two of the most misperceived cities (by those unfamiliar, which is most) in America

Connecticut in my experience is a complete dump outside the cluster of NYC suburbs near Westchester (that everyone associates CT with) and West Hartford suburbs

Bridgeport is another that is an absolute shithole

NJ gets a bad rap but is nicer overall state IMO. People just don’t see that part of it unless you actually live there

Hmm, actual FBI data or a random Fox News article?

Violent Crime Rate (s)
Baton Rouge, LA 10.11 per 1k
Gainesville, FL 7.52 per 1k
Tuscaloosa, AL 5.84 per 1k
