And a record payroll sunk cost is a disaster of a situation, yeah

This year, yes, a large bulk of that is gone after this season. We have like $40M in players that arent even here anymore coming off the books after this season, $24M alone to Cano. Our "record payroll" is at $217M next season including luxury tax estimate and paying for Scherzer and Verlander. Before free agency obviously

Thats also including Cahna's $11.5 which should be going away with the trade, it was a club option year.

Sure, he kind of sucks, but now when he throws an immaculate inning against the Dodgers in game 5 of the NLDS we can have a head line saying "IMMACULATE HAND-JOB DOOMS DODGERS IN DIVISIONAL"

Someone take Flaherty dammit.

Eduardo Rodríguez and Jack Flaherty have strong markets, with a little more than 2 hours left to the deadline.

Dodgers, Braves, Reds, Orioles, Marlins, DBacks all looking at rotation upgrades.

I think I’d rather keep them and try to win next year, and if they go right back into free agency aggressively to do so they’ll actually end up spending a lot more. But if you’re gonna tear it down and have a bottomless pit of money this is the way to do it. It’s not clever or shrewd in any way though, just like offering Scherzer and Verlander considerably more than anyone else wasn’t.

Like what? They have a multitude of pitching and hitting issues that getting 1 player, even Verlander, was not going to fix. I think Friedman knew this and so didn't want to give up good prospects.
