We got somebody to trade for Duvall, wow. Didn't think we'd get rid of him now that Winker is out for the year.

That is interesting.

Opens up two 40 man spots (Which was necessary with Allard coming up tomorrow) and allows the Braves to platoon Inciarte by moving Acuna to center.

No doubt that Sims and Wisler were garbage and I understand the move for spots....but is Duvall an improvement? I just figured the Braves would continue to focus on upgrading the bullpen.

Over Preston Tucker? Yes. 30+ HR in 2016 and 2017 and plays respectable defense. Wisler and Sims were never going to amount to anything in Atlanta anyways with the young arms on the way up so this was basically a Tucker for Duvall trade.

He wasn't in the Reds future plans. Good defensive outfielder and will give you some pop off the bench but that's it. .205 average.

But not sure what the Braves needs are, he may be what they're looking for.

Maybe his bat will come around. Looked at his stats and woof.

It's bad, but still has power and plays solid defense

Even with his year being crap so far (and he's been really unlucky with a BABIP in the .240s), he has a .768 OPS versus lefties and has been an excellent LF defensively the past 3 years (+14 DRS so far this season). Inciarte has a .523 OPS versus lefties so far, so if we platooned Duvall against lefties with Acuna playing center it would be a pretty big upgrade.

Plus, Wisler and Tucker probably wouldn’t have been protected in the 40 man next year.

What a trade for the Reds. They got a better OF than Duvall plus 2 young pitchers. The biggest heist of the trading season.

I heard an interview with their Pres or GM or some Reds FO guy - they think they can win next year.

He is exactly what we were looking for.

Power from the right side, and can start a few games in left vs righties if we want to sit Inciarte.

I see it as low risk, high reward. Duvall is under team control til 2022. Markakis is a FA and will be looking to cash in on this season. They’ll make him a qualifying offer, he’ll walk and then it’ll be like the Braves just traded 2 lower tier “prospects” and a career minor leaguer for a guy that could hit 30 homers a year for a decade and a free 2nd rder. I think this is brilliant on the Braves part and for their future. And if Duvall stats poo, no harm no foul

Career WAR

Preston Tucker- -0.2
Matt Wisler-0.5
