rookie third baseman Miguel Andujar. Rather, the Yankees simply would have platooned Andujar at first base or sent him down to the minors while Machado played third, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (subscription required). The bottom line is that the Yankees “have no plans to trade Andujar,” writes Rosenthal, who adds that they recently turned down the Padreswhen they asked for the 23-year-old in exchange for reliever Brad Hand. San Diego ended up sending Hand to Cleveland in a blockbuster dealon Thursday.
Yankees high on Andujar as they should be

I disagree about not trading deGrom right now. They have the second worst record in the NL with deGrom having a great season. They aren’t competing with the Phillies, Braves, and Nats the next few years. They should completely rebuild their farm system that isn’t very good right now. They would have one of the top farm systems in baseball if they decide to trade deGrom and Thor away.

Look at the Phillies and Braves last year, we could have said the same thing.
With Noah, DeGrom, Matz, and Gellmanbtgey still have the pitching to keep them in games. Now if they can get some useful offensive pieces the Mets can turn it around soon. Nimmo, Confonto, Cespedas, Rosario they have some building blocks

Cespedes missed half the season last year and has missed over 50 games so far this year, and he isnt getting younger. Conforto had a good year last year, but its wrapped around a bad 2016 and a bad 2018. Rosario has shown nothing in basically a full season. He can still develop in the future, but who really knows with him. Nimmo is definitely having a good year in his first full season with the team.
I think thats too many ifs for them to compete, especially with only Alonso almost ready to make a impact in the minors.

Nimmo is definitely having a good year in his first full season with the team.
quote:Again, at this point last year people were saying the Braves/Phillies were 2-3 years away from competing and here we are a year later and their battling for 1st. The Mets still have a young pitching core, they need the offense and they can add a few prospects who may provide that at the deadline without gutting the team.
I think thats too many ifs for them to compete,

The Braves/Phillies (especially the Braves) had elite young talent on their way up. The Mets do not have that
I’m not sure why you’re comparing them, they are completely different situations

quote:The Mets already have elite young talent in their rotation. They also have some talent on the MLB roster, they are not as far off in my opinion as people try to place them. Now they are dysfunctional which is a bigger hinderance that what you see but last year the Braves had RA Dickey, Brandon Phillips, Matt Kemp, Jamie Garcia, and Bartolo Colon manning the roster and a lot of unproven talent coming up. The Mets have a lot of proven talent in their pitching staff and have talent in Rosario, Confonto, Nimmo, Smith, that can hopefully be elite. They are not far off and going into a drastic rebuild isn't necessary is all I am saying.

Baltimore has given Tillman an opportunity to continue pitching in its minor league system, but he’s undecided as of now, general manager Dan Duquette told Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun and other reporters.
2:24pm: The Orioles announced that they’ve designated right-hander Chris Tillman for assignment. His roster spot will go to infielder/outfielder Renato Nunez, whom they’ve selected from Triple-A Norfolk.

I don’t think they should trade it all. DeGrom is 30, a free agent in two years, and would fetch a significant return.

True but he also could man the rotation for the next two years as they challenge like the Braves/Phillies are right now. If the Mets make the right moves, the Mets have him under control and if they believe they can make the turn around then no need to move him when he could be leading their team in a year.

Seems like a Rangers or Angels type of move.

I was thinking Braves or Phillies to be honest with you, maybe even Padres/Dodgers as he could benefit from their stadiums
Posted on 7/20/18 at 2:25 pm to tduecen
I don't think a team legitimately in the pennant race is going to take a chance on a guy who can't even help the Orioles right now.

The issue is their young players have all struggled outside of Nimmo. Conforto has had injuries that have hurt his development and Rosario hasn’t done anything in the majors so far. They don’t have much money available and don’t have the farm system to improve their big league club.
Posted on 7/20/18 at 2:28 pm to Jwho77
Do they have to add him to the active roster or can they place him on the 40m and send him to AAA
Posted on 7/20/18 at 2:31 pm to tduecen
Not sure but I think Tillman has a say in it.

Wheeler is the only player you mentioned that would bring back decent talent. They would have to include prospects to get rid of Bruce who has been one of the worst everyday players in baseball this year and is still owed 26m
