DeGrom is a FA after 2020 and Wheeler is next year I believe

DeGrom to the Braves is a perfect fit I just don’t think there’s a good enough position player talent they would be willing to move to get him along with the pitchers they could offer. Assuming Acuna is a nonstarter

degrom is a catch 22. to do what you would have to do to acquire him, you will have to give up such a large amount that it would ultimately leave your organization in worse spot

I don’t know what the Mets would take, but you can definitely make an argument for dealing Acuna plus a couple of their minor league arms (like Wright or Soroka plus Gohara or Fried) and then a guy like Pache. The Braves have so many good but not elite (yet) arms that the pitching prospects don’t hurt them as much as it would most. But I understand why they might not want to do it yet.

They are built on pitching which im sure is what a deal would be centered around.

they have the Pache kid, his is a 70 grade OF.

Wilson Contreras' brother who is also a C who is coming on this year

Austin Riley is a 21yr old who is handling AAA well

ETA they aren't dealing Acuna. He, Albies and Camargo form a nice little young base that they will start to build around
Drew Waters switching hitting OF from last year's draft is shooting up too

i personally have fears of dealing with pitchers when the hit 30. pitchers in general are all ticking time bombs, just look at kershaw. but if i was the mets, i would be looking into what you are talking about. a player like acuna, a young serviceable 3 WAR type player in the mold of inciarte but someone who is either just getting into his arb years or even pre arb, and then major minor league arms

i think the cost would be too much for me to make that deal for a pitcher hitting 30 even if he still has two more full years of arb left

Yeah I would just much rather build a deal around a very good young position player prospect instead of pitching if I am the franchise dealing someone the caliber of DeGrom. Acuna is probably too good though. What you are talking about may end up being the best type of deal they can get. I do think they will end up trading him this winter

ESPN has an article of the Cubs getting DeGrom and the deal including Happ, Montgomery, or Russell

That's as laughably bad from the Braves end as that other guys trade was from the Mets end. No way in hell the Braves are giving up two top 40 hitting prospects in one trade. Acuna is untouchable period, and I doubt Pache is traded with the way Inciarte is hitting this year, he's basically our CF of the future.

I don't really see a good fit for us trading for DeGrom, the only hitting prospect I could see us moving really is Riley, though any of our pitching prospects could obviously be on the table for him.

Yeah I honestly didn’t realize how much Pache had risen

Yeah, pretty much everyone but BA has him around 30-35ish at least. His speed and defense are elite in CF, so if he continues to show power like he has this year he will continue to shoot up the boards. For me personally he's our most untouchable player behind Acuna. Waters and Contreras are both players that are going top shoot up the boards as well.

The Braves aren't close enough to WS contenders to make any big moves right now, we should just make minor moves for bullpen help and maybe a 3B bat and see how things go.

Yeah I agree with that. If Atlanta could get him this winter with a deal around young pitching and not touching their elite young position player talent I think it would make some sense. The Mets may be in a tough spot because the two teams best equipped to deal for DeGrom (Yankees and Braves) are two places they will likely be weird about shipping him to.

If an extra inning game has to go to chess to determine a winner, the Rangers got their guy now:

The Mets right now have no idea what they’re gonna do. They should be shopping the hell out of deGrom right now and trying to find the best deal possible. He has only 2 years left before free agency after this year. Sale had 3 when the White Sox traded him to the Red Sox. They have to move him either now or in the offseason for the best deal.

Mets should be shopping Bruce, Cabrera, Familia, and Wheeler. Hold onto DeGrom since you have him 2-3 more seasons. They have some decent young kids with Rosario, Confonto, and Nimmo. Bring in some more youth

Anyone know if extra innings is doing a free preview like they usually do after all star break? Also will it be discounted?
