It’s even worse than that. They brought forth Essentially the same deal four different times. The players conceded on service time. They conceded on playoff length. The owners conceded on absolutely nothing because they never wanted a season.

They also gave the owners an expanded playoff for the next two years

If there’s no baseball, Manfred should either resign or be fired. He seems like a joke anyway. Worse than Roger Goddell.

They literally gave on everything but pro rated pay, and the owners gave up literally nothing, and people want to tell me they are complicit in this

ESPN really slamming Manfred and the owners this morning. Seems public animosity is really tilted more towards Manfred and the owners rather than the players. Wonder if it makes the owners give in?

Agreed. He probably should be let go regardless given the way he has handled this.

Someone on twitter, I think Dayn Perry, made a good point about calls for Manfred to be fired. Manfred is just doing what the owners are telling him to do. His job is to represent the owners wishes. Think about how much he's currently ruining the game at the behest of the owners. If he were to get fired for not fully executing what they want, what kind of outcomes are we in store for?

Hearing that six owners that don't want a season.
@Ken_Rosenthal reports 8 or more. Urgency for Manfred to corral his group before that number grows.

Neither side is acting in good faith. This is nothing but a pissing match to get a leg up in negotiations for the new CBA.

Exactly, the owners realize not playing the season would possibly (likely) bankrupt the MLBPA.

The Commissioner should be doing what is in the best interest of the game as a whole, as a sport and as a business.

Of course he gets marching orders from owners, but he can still deal in good faith with both sides. The Commissioner should always be a person that is independently wealthy, not beholding to his salary. I know that sounds utopic, but I truly think such people exist, and they would relish the opportunity.

The only positive in my eyes with this dragging out is the possibility that players and writers will go for the owners crown jewel, the Yankees, and threaten to smear their supposed good standing.

They've wounded the Astros(mostly) and Red Sox, setting the table for the Yankees to finally end their WS drought, and are in position to reap the windfall, unless they were to become directly and openly involved in the sign stealing scandal.

I don't know. They're trying to sell. Not playing will hurt that.

I wouldn't be surprised if DeWitt is one of them.

Never mind. You meant ownership thought you meant they were trying to be sellers of talent

The MLB/owners won't set dates for a season because they now know the union will sue them. They will negotiate with the union while I assume getting their national TV partners to agree they want even more playoff teams/games this year so there's more TV money to cover player salaries.
