Something on Right on the River, either side, could be really cool? Could definitely give it a nice view of the River with ships passing. Pensacola with their stadium right on the Bay makes from a really cool ambiance.

NHL would have better chance than MLB but neither has a realistic chance I know people on this board dog the NBA but there are alot of NBA fans in New Orleans area PELs just haven’t won except for brief spurts Imagine if we had the Thunders record last 20 yrs

And this is a great example of why no pro team but the Saints will ever be successful in New Orleans.

something with a view of the bridge, similar to what Pittsburgh has.

You really don’t think Houston can support an NHL all star game?

It’s not that they can’t it’s that the league and people traveling in for the event whether its players, fans Media etc would much rather go to Nola than Houston. It’s just a more fun destination city. Houston is extremely boring when it comes to hosting major events. It’s so spread out and decentralized.

My main point with this whole topic was that Nola is a destination city and that’s a big reason why the NHL and or MLB would want to have a team there. It’s all about bringing people in, booking hotels, eating at restaurants etc. it’s not all about locals and how many locals are going to each game. It’s about the Central Gulf Coast needing another pro team.

Couple of things…

Is this your opinion, or something that has been expressed by a league?

Houston is the 4th largest city in the country. If you can’t have fun there and find it “boring”, that’s on you.

Destination cities are great for all star games, but they also need to support a team. In the case of the NHL, that’s 41 home dates. If the Pelicans are around, there is absolutely no way that happens. If the Pels go away, there’s maybe 5% chance that it works.

Houston is a world class city. I realize NO is when it comes to food, but let’s not pretend you can’t find 5 star restaurants in Houston.

I mean, that’s exactly what it’s about.

for 1 game, you'd be correct.
NOLA does that better than anyone else.

for 41 home games (NHL) or 81 home games (MLB), not so much.

there is a reason why every single city that holds (at least) 3 of those leagues all have more than double the population of New Orleans.

you can't count the entire "central gulf coast" region as their home in those sports like you would in the NFL. Who only plays one day per week and games typically end early enough to drive home.

MLB (for example)
Milwaukee is the smallest population center in the league.
their upcoming schedule has them playing home games 6 days in a row.

but according to this website:
Population around a point

Milwaukee has 2.7 million people within 50 miles of their stadium.
NOLA only has 1.6 million within 50 mile radius of the super dome.

having an additional 1.1 million people hanging around to potentially buy tickets on any given night makes it a LOT easier to sell seats.

is that a new(ish) bridge?
I haven't been since '07 or '08 and don't remember it looking like that.

I don't see any way either would work here in terms of financial support.

What we need to legitimately fear is a relocated or expansion team in the WNBA.

Trade the Pelicans to St Louis for the Blues. Can keep the name or change it to Brass. Build a new arena by the Convention center.
We are also getting ever closer to having pro leagues look at other Louisiana cities. BR is already bigger than NOLA in many aspects, Lafayette just continues to grow. Who knows

Yes. There were legal hangups with some of the firms working on it. It opened up last month.

St. Louis loves the Blues. You really think they would trade them?

Yeah…no way St Louis makes that deal. I think NHL and NBA are trending in opposite directions. I’m not saying the NHL will ever catch up…but it’s wildly popular in places like Tampa, Nashville, Carolina. You can include St Louis. The NHL nailed the 4 Nations face off, while the NBA ASG is set to undergo more changes.

I think the odds are better that The Saints are the only team in town.

thats on the players… I’m sure the owners weren’t too thrilled seeing teammates kill each other in the middle of the season

Some on this board want to believe the NHL is on the way up but call me when their biggest star signs for 3/165, and midlevel players get 4/150
