With the bullpen-needy Cubs facing a budget crunch, acquiring even a mid-tier reliever would require removing payroll from elsewhere on their roster, per Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic(subscription required). Thus, as the Cubs look for ways to improve this offseason with little to no spending space, the club has “bandied about the idea of trading” second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist, Sharma writes. In jettisoning some or all of Zobrist’s $12.5MM salary, the Cubs would give themselves some room to upgrade their bullpen – a unit that has lost Jesse Chavez and Justin Wilson to free agency while gaining no one this offseason – and hopefully not experience much an offensive drop-off, Sharma notes.

Gray to Cincinnati is complete. Yankees get Shed Long and 36th pick, Gray agreed to extension.

Edit: 3 team trade. Actually Shed Long is going to Seattle, Stowers going from Seattle to New York.

NY-Reds deal official, but now word is that it's a 3 way deal.

Reds get gray, and he signs an extension.

Yankees get Josh Stowers from Mariners and the sandwich pick

Mariners get Shed Long

Second base prospect Shed Long and Cincinnati’s Competitive Balance Round A pick will go to the Yankees in exchange for Gray and left-hander Reiver Sanmartin. New York, according to multiple reports, will flip Long directly to the Mariners in return for center field prospect Josh Stowers — the Mariners’ second-round pick in the 2018 draft.

As part of the trade, Gray has reportedly agreed to a new, three-year contract extension with the Reds that’ll span the 2020-22 seasons. That’s in addition to his $7.5MM salary for the 2019 season, and the contract also comes with a $12MM club option for the 2023 season. There are $500K worth of incentives based on innings pitched in each new season of the deal, and his annual salaries can grow based on performance escalators.

Passan was the man for that deal, but boy did he butcher it.

He Should of waited 1 more minute and his 2 team deal info, would of been the 3rd team dealio and no need for deletes or edits.

Yeah Disco and Mahle fighting for fifth spot, with Disco being the early favorite.

Danny Farquhar's inspirational recovery from a brain hemorrhage is complete, and the right-hander will have the opportunity to return to the mound this coming season as he agreed to a Minor League contract with the Yankees on Monday, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Angels have made some moves this offseason

Cody Allen - closer
Matt Harvey - pitcher
Trevor Cahill - pitcher
Jonathan Lucroy - catcher
Justin Bour - first base
Tommy La Stella - utility

Wonder if it will help them get the WC2

The Giants have agreed to terms with southpaw Drew Pomeranz, according to Larry Krueger of KNBR. Pomeranz will be guaranteed just $1.5MM, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com tweets. There are incentives that can push the total value to $5MM, though, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com (Twitter link).

I saw Baseball Prospectus released their top 101 prospects today and was pretty surprised to see Angels OF Jo Adell all the way up to #2 ahead of Tatis

Could be a scary pair with Trout in the outfield in the future

Makes much more sense than Harper, and at a huge discount

Free agent outfielder A.J. Pollock is in agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers, league sources tell ESPN. They have been discussing a five-year deal in the $60 million-plus range, though it's unclear if those are indeed the final terms. @Ken_Rosenthal had the deal done first.

As a Braves fan, I am much more satisfied with Nick Markakis knowing Pollock is getting 5/60.
