The Trea Turner signing by the Phillies takes total spending by MLB teams this winter to $1.05 billion. And that's without Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Rodón, Dansby Swanson, the five of whom together will command well over a billion. An incredible market.

Trea Turner 11 years $300m to the phillies, full no trade

That's $27.2MIL AAV. I honestly thought he'd break 30.

The market has been set.

He agreed to a longer deal at lesser AAV to allow team to add more players.

That's correct, the Phightins still need one more frontline starter at minimum, and at least two more pen pieces.

I would be interested in the premiums for the insurance policies teams have to purchase on these contracts

Agreed. Trea Turner, I'm sure Dodgers fans will agree, is one of the best all around players in baseball. Fielding, running, hitting - he does it all. For his size he's one of the best in the game.

Per @jonmorosi, the #Mets have continued interest in international free-agent SP Kodai Senga and “aren’t close to done” upgrading their rotation.

Great offensive player for sure, but I wouldn't say his defense is that great.

#DBacks among the most serious Xander Bogaerts suitors, as I mentioned today on @MLBNetwork. Bogaerts made his @MLB debut with the #RedSox while Mike Hazen was a top executive in Boston.

The #STLCards and Cubs are reportedly co-favorites to land SS Dansby Swanson, per @jonmorosi

Swanson, 28, had a wRC+ of 116 last season to pair with 9 DRS. He ended the year with a career-high 6.4 fWAR

Ugh my last choice.

When you need a big bat, definitely go for the glove first guy.

White Sox closer Liam Hendriks’ name has come up in trade talks with other clubs, per source. Hendriks has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to veto a deal to five clubs.
quote:

Hendriks is owed $14 million in 2023 and has a $15 million club option for 2024, though the buyout on the option is $15 million paid out in 10 annual installments of $1.5 million. Should Hendriks be traded, the option becomes a guaranteed year for 2024.
