prospects going to marlins are rhp jorge guzman and infielder jose devers. considered mid-range prospects, but ex-yankee exec gary denbo obviously sees potential. @Joelsherman1 1st with prospects

Observation: if ever there was a franchise that is the poster-child for contraction, it is the Marlins.

Question: what are the odds that Miami is just a brief stop-over for Castro and they turn around and trade him?

True. They weren’t even close this year, were they?

Sure I was mainly trolling but another slugger wasn't what I would consider a priority. that said Stanton when healthy makes any team better at least for the short term.

Severino, Tanaka, Gray, Montgomery, and Adams next year

In all honesty this was a luxury for the Yankees they didn't need Stanton as the offense was good already. It is nice to have a bash brother combo now....

Gardner, Judge, Sanchez, Stanton, Bird, Didi, Hicks, Torres, Headley lineup

Great trade for Yankees. I wonder if Marlins GM ever gives another no trade clause after this heist. I read Marlins are paying $30M of the contract.

Since that deal was for 13 years and $325MM, Stanton luxury tax contribution will be $22MM annually. The average annual value of Castro’s contract is $8.6MM, and the Yankees will get another $3MM of relief due to the $30MM the Marlins are conditionally including in the deal. All told, then, the Stanton trade will only add about $10.4MM to the Yankees payroll in 2018 for luxury tax purposes.

Could Yankees realistically sign Machado too next year, and squeeze in under luxury tax?

151 million payroll for 2018 that includes Castro and doesn't include Stanton, also not accounting for arbitration eligible players

127 million payroll in 2019
100 million in 2020
88 million in 2021

If they can get rid of Jacob Ellsbury I believe they can

Ellsbury is going to be hard to move. If he somehow plays like he did with Red Sox again, someone might take a chance on him.

He was having a good year last year prior to injury, he came back and wasn't the same. The Yankees would have to eat some of his salary in order to move him. Maybe if they took the 30m the Marlins just helped with.

If it were my team, I’d rather have Gardner.

Ellsbury has a no trade clause and what team would want him, anyway? Even at half his current salary that would be a horrible contract

Gardner will 35 next season, he's no spring chicken. Holding Clint Frazier in that deal is a nice win. They still have Aaron Hicks too who had a breakout last season and is only 27
