I know Philly is going to be a 150m team soon, but I just don't think starting it off with Santana and Arrietta as a 45m foundation is a good start.
I am not very bullish on them.

Velazquez has the potential to be a good middle of the rotation guy in terms of talent, but his command is pretty bad for his offspeed stuff.

VV would be a dynamite reliever

While I agree with the general sentiment in your post, their rotation behind Nola has looked okay in the Spring. Will depend on Vinny V finally putting it together (big if, but he's looked fine this spring at least) and Jerckoff staying healthy.
We both know we can't put much stock in spring Lou or Tyler White would be starting at 1B for the Astros. Velasquez has great stuff and nothing to lose in the spring. If he can take the walk rate he is playing with now into the regular season, then yea. But as i said, he has nothing to lose right now, and 7 IP really can't tell us much. Pivetta, same thing. Good stuff no command.
Eickhoff (7.36 ERA this spring btw) plays off a 90mph fastball is a fine SP4 or 5. But Nola is more of a 2 and Arrieta is more of a 3 these days. Still no ace and missing 2 more quality arms in that rotation.

The Mets I wonder where the offense will come from..
and you don't worry about where the Phillies offense is going to come from?
Jay Bruce, Cespedes, Todd Frazier, Conforto eventually. I mean at least they have some tested MLB players and former all stars.
2nd tier players like Reyes, Wilmer Flores, Nimmo, Astrubal are solid MLB players. Larages is one of the best CF's in the league.

I agree with you. Mets are the sleeper team in that division if healthy, not Philly.

yap. and they feature Noah and DeGrom 1-2. Anything they get from Harvey and Matz is lagniappe. Zach Wheeler has had a great spring too.

I will take the potential of youth over those 30+ already....
Herrera, Hernandez, Santana, Roskins, Williams, Franco, and Crawford....

Carlos Santana is 32 and their only true proven MLB hitter

Yeah they are young but they have "proven" hitters as well. I also like the potential of Hoskins from what he showed last year and the potential that Franco, Williams, and Crawford have.

Arrieta, Nola, Eickhoff, and Velasquez is not a bad 4 either assuming Eickhoff gets back to what he was 2 years ago rather than last year.

I just don’t really understand the Phillies team. I know it’s only 3 years but 75 million is a lot for a guy with an arm that most don’t expect to hold up. They have some decent young talent but I don’t see that being near enough to complete.

Three year deals for Santana and Arrieta are perfect, especially for a team like the Phillies who have nearly everyone on pre arb rookie deals. They almost had to spend that money. They will bridge the gap until they are ready to compete, and they could make noise sooner if some of these youngsters "hit"
Also, Santana and Arrieta are "Kapler" guys, meaning they will mentor all these young guys and show them how to be professionals. Santana is already working with Franco to teach him how to hit

I don't think you are in a great spot when your 2nd & 3rd best established hitters are Odubel Herrera and Caesar Hernandez.

Justin Turner has a broken wrist after being hit by a pitch.
