Actually I thought it was worse lol.
But a majority of those guys are not nearly as good as they once were or had a bad 2017. Cutch, Mauer, Adrian, Miggy and Donaldson all fell off of a cliff a season or two afterwards.
Poor Ryan Howard, feel bad for that guy now lol.

Alright we can kill the Stanton going anywhere talk now.
Marlins going full retard with asking price wanting top prospects and eating no money, and Stanton said he won't accept trade to Boston, STL, or SF.
That's a wrap.

If Giancarlo Stanton is going to be on the move this offseason, it appears two of the previously rumored landing spots for the slugger have been crossed off his list.
Stanton won't accept a trade to the Boston Red Sox or St. Louis Cardinals, a source told the Boston Herald's Chad Jennings.
A Peter Gammons report added that Stanton isn't fascinated by the idea of going to Boston, St. Louis, or San Francisco, for varying reasons.
Another barrier in trading for Stanton is apparently the "shockingly high" prospect asking price from the Marlins, along with the 10 years and $295 million left on his contract.

I saw a report that the Fish wanted Heliot Ramos from the Giants. Kind of poking a hole in their talk of wanting MLB ready talent in return.
Essentially, they asked for the entirety of the Giants farm system by asking for Ramos.

I mean yea
The only way anyone was getting Stanton for cheap was if the new owners were super motivated to move the contract

Unless they pulled multiple millions of dollars from their collective rectums recently, they should be motivated to move the contract. They have to shed payroll.
UNLESS they want to move in the other direction and add pitching in the hopes that a contender will increase revenue. History doesn't indicate a high likelihood there though.

Personally couldn't blame them doing either or

Alright STL bros on to the next hype train, but staying with the Marlins...

ESPN's @Buster_ESPN says the Marlins' books are so bad they may be well served in moving their other outfielders before Stanton, and that Yelich or Ozuna may be better @Cardinals fits.

If they were asking that for Stanton, what do you think they're asking for Ozuna and/or Yelich?
If their financial situation is as dire as Olney is saying they wouldn't be asking the moon for Stanton. Or they're not asking for that much and it's just posturing in the media from the parties involved

They were asking to eat zero salary for Stanton, and still wanting top prospects.
Ozuna/Yelich is a different situation, you aren't taking on a billion dollars.
Much more Cardinals like than taking on a massive contract, and Cards want to deal, and have whatever Miami would want. One of them makes a lot more sense.

I understand the benefits of Yelich and Ozuna, I'm saying if they were asking for top prospects in return for Stanton while throwing in zero money 1) their financial situation obviously isn't that dire like Olney is saying, because they don't seem very motivated to move him and 2) they're going to be asking for huge prospects for them too
Trading top notch prospects for those two shouldn't be a problem especially Yelich because his deal is incredible but the reports aren't adding up. It seems like both sides are doing manipulating and posturing in the media and should be taken with a grain of salt

I've been wanting Yellich over Stanton for a while now (and have said so on this board). So I'm glad to see the talks move in that direction.
Do not think that I'm saying I would have been upset to get Stanton. I would have been thrilled. But I like Yellich and his contract more.

I think the Stanton hype was just overblown and they were never overly serious about trading him and he doesn't really want to leave either so he's publicly blocking a few of the top targets.
Marlins can shed salary elsewhere over time.
The Yelich deal for a top prospect and another decent one would be great, I'd take that.

I would want Yelich more too. He's really good, he will be 26 next year, signed through 2022 on a very team friendly deal and getting better every year. He can also cover any OF spot.

The Dodgers are indeed in the mix for Giancarlo Stanton, according to a source.

Yeah I guess not last year. He still came close to the power from 2016 and would be a great add while not tying them up financially

I mean it would be cool but I doubt it. Really doesn't make much sense outside of "It's Stanton"

I said this after WS was over, Puig+? for Stanton.

I would like to see Taylor included to lessen the price of prospects or younger guys. He's a major regression candidate
