people will get tired of seeing Bryant and Rizzo.
Bryant should be the face of that franchise. Rizzo is a cheesedick.

But this isn't about ticket sales. Other leagues can market their stars on bad teams in small markets.
I disagree. You don't see much of AD, Giannis, Paul George in national ads. Lillard is the only star player in a small market on a non contender I can think of that gets a lot of national marketing, and his team is in the middle range over the last few years.

And how the hell do you suggest baseball do a significantly better job of marketing their players without the use of commercials?
i don't know.
WHy does my wife know who the starting QB for most NFL teams is, or can easily identify the starters from the NBA all-star game, or know who Mickelson/Rory/Speith/Bubba/Fowler/Johnson & Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/Murray/Roddick are but can't name a single MLB player outside of a guy from a sexy facebook posts during a world series run and another who's dating a victoria secret model that women love to call fat.
You want MLB players to get more popular, tell them to start dating a Kardashian or something, or have some of their wives do a show that pisses women off. I don't know.

AD has had national Foot Locker, H&R Block, Nike, and Red Bull ads. Giannis ain't from here and he just exploded so we'll see what happens this offseason. PG has had pretty notable Gatorade commercials.

I have no clue. I don't know you're wife and I don't know what sports are on TV in your house.
My wife can name significantly more baseball players than NBA or NFL.

That OKC market is real big too huh.
I'd bet money if Minny ever gets good and starts making some playoff runs, casual fans will know who Towns and Wiggins are.
most casual fans know who Anthony Davis is. he won a national title in college and has been in national commercials on ESPN and was the highlight of the recent all-star game.
Dwight Howard was nationally known when he was in Orlando.
Harden is nationally known, even though he does play in a large market, he still plays for a team that isn't one of the nationally followed teams like a Knicks/Celtics/lakers/Bulls
Steve Nash got himself pretty damn popular out in the desert, even though that too is a big market, just not a big national team.
Carmelo was nationally known in Denver
I know he's LeBron, but he did/does play in fricken Cleveland. He's a once in a lifetime player, just like Trout. Trout can walk around New Orleans and might not get noticed by anyone. he might even get mistaken for Channing Tatum if hes around his bar on Bourbon. LeBron can't walk around in some small village in china without being recognized.

The point i was making was the average guy that pays attention to sports, knows who Mike Trout is.
The guy that doesn't watch sports outside of big events, like most woman, doesn't know who Mike Trout is, but can still rattle off a few NFL and NBA players, and probably a few golfers and tennis players.

Baseball does a horrible job of promotion... Each team promotes it's own players but baseball as a whole doesn't push those players.
Posted on 4/5/17 at 4:21 pm to Duggars23
It's because half of the MLB's recognizable superstars of the last two decades out-shined the players of the decades before them, and then were outed as roid-taking cheaters.

Baseball is in a golden age of young players and does a shitty job.
Trout
Harper
Kershaw
Manny M
J. Altuve
P. Goldschmidt
N. Arendo
Lindor
Betts
Bogaerts
Thor
Stanton
Odor
Every team has at least one markable young players and MLB is not doing the marketing, it is regional based on the teams.

This is really strange, the MLB appears to be really wealthy and seems to be headed in a good direction so the little marketing in head scratching.
Posted on 4/5/17 at 4:55 pm to castorinho
Because they leave it up to the teams to market, baseball is still old school on the marketing from a national level. They believe the game itself should be marketed not individuals

I"m not a big baseball watcher, other than occasional sportscenter highlights, if you can say sportscenter still has highlights, and the playoffs.
This is what i know about the people you listed. Bold is what i filled in.

No there isn't. The most diluted pool of talent in my lifetime. It's obscene the guys that make the show now with below average skills.
Posted on 4/5/17 at 7:15 pm to TeddyPadillac
Which is an issue, that is only a few of the great players in MLB. I could go to every team and list a player or two if I wanted to.

Just seems as though Griffey, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Frank Thomas, etc...were more popular compared to today's stars.
