Harper is pretty damn recognizable. Trout isn't that kind of person that enjoys promotion.

Betts won some sort of bowling tournament I was watching a month or so ago so there's that haha.

I'm kind of starting to think that the 'superstars' don't really give a shite since they're contracts are fully guaranteed.

NBA players also have fully guaranteed contracts but they still market themselves cause they want endorsement money. I imagine baseball players also want more endorsement money

Maybe MLB should do more to promote their stars. I can't think of a commercial with Mike Trout or Bryce harper

Really? Do you watch TV at all? Because Mike Trout has been in a shite load of Subway commercials.

Neat, I bet that salary cap in the NBA is badass.

Trout doesn't have to market himself. He's set for life and it will come from the salary his play demands.

A lot of people have been in Subway commercials. Nastia Lukin got one a couple of years back and she's wasn't even that good at gymnastics.

Ok I looked up her stats. She was pretty damn good but still, she's a gymnast.

Even if you're right, there are quite a few players mentioned ITT that aren't exactly making big time money by star athlete standards. Baseball players make a lot but it doesn't happen when you're 23 or 24.

You do realize that NBA players make nearly $6 million on average while MLB is at $4.5 million. By 2019 the average nba salary will be over $8.5 million. Lebron James is also set for life financially among other top nba players but they make tens of millions off the court and i guarantee you most mlb players want endorsement money as well

How many players are on a NBA roster?

Not sure what your point is or if you even have one. This comment doesn't change the fact that Mike Trout and Bryce Harper have both appeared in commercials and the guy said he can't think of any commercials that they appeared in.

I'm saying the proof is in the pudding; why isn't Trout more popular? My point wasn't that he's not being marketed, just that he's not being marketed commensurate to his greatness.

No player ever has had the start to a career that he has and no non-sports fans know who he is. He hasn't crossed over.

And my point about Subway is that so many athletes of late have been in their commercials that it isn't really a special thing.

who the hell watches commercials?

My wife has no idea who Mike Trout is, nor Bryce Harper.
She knows Kris Bryant b/c of some facebook crap last year.

She could easily name 10 NFL players and 10 NBA players, as well as a few golfers.

If i asked her to name a MLB player, she'd say Kris Bryant and Alex Bregman. a year ago had i asked her that she would have said Jeter, but he's retired, and then said no one.

She knows Ken Griffey and ARod, and Jeter, and Sosa, and McGuire, and most of the Braves players from the late 90's.

my neighbors 10 year old son has a fat head of Drew Brees and Kevin Durant. he doesnt play football or basketball. He plays baseball. he doesnt' know who Mike Trout or Byrce Harper are.

I'm not saying that baseball does a great job of marketing players, however, the Mike Trout issue is also a function of where he plays. West Coast. All of his games are played late at night for the vast majority of the country. I'm a huge baseball fan and don't get to watch him play live often enough.

Most people knew Derek Jeter and ARod. Look where they played.

Well I watch plenty of them because I watch my team play live.

And how the hell do you suggest baseball do a significantly better job of marketing their players without the use of commercials?

The media barely knows where Los Angeles is. Half the freaking Clippers starting lineup has an ad campaign with State Farm.

I guess the comment went right over your head. He's not going to garner a hell of a lot of national attention given where his team plays. Hard to believe you can't understand that.

I never said he wouldn't appear in a commercial because he plays in LA. I said he's not going to garner the national attention and spotlight as much as someone in an east coast time zone.

Who the frick stays up til 10 PM to watch the Angels plays the As?
