Pitch clock is amazing for a live game. I love it.

I am anti robo-umpire. Let's grade them and that is it. Umps are a part of the game. Next thing we will robo-play the games.

I had the pleasure of going to Wrigley and Fenway this year and both games were sold out and very fun crowds. The pitch clock has made such a big difference as I remember going to games in the past that just took so long. These flew by.

Just think what they could do if they got rid of the BS blackout rules.

0.09% attendance growth isn't very good. Average attendance was also down from last season.

Yes, making the game faster has done wonders. Being able to go to a Braves game and be walking to my car in 2.5 hours is pretty nice.

Imagine how good the ratings would be if the players could actually hit worth a damn.

It really is great to hear - I always thought baseball was fine it was just regional - folks watched their teams and went to their teams games and not much else. But seeing some growth nationally is encouraging.

I think this warrants some context - for years St. Louis had some of the best attendance in baseball, they had a 22% decrease from the previous year. Not sure how that affect your totals - marginally perhaps - but their numbers have little or nothing to do with the popularity of baseball - the reasons have been specifically discussed here.

I would also say any growth in attendance is good - that means it was better than the year before.

13 teams saw an attendance drop, almost half the league.

Cardinals at 7.7K were #1, followed by the Orioles at 5.6K. Excluding the Rays at 6.6K with the ballpark change, but they are the worst of the worst for attendance either way. The Rangers were next at 3.1K, Pirates 2.5K, Twins 2K, Braves 1.8K, Astros 1.3K.

Not really, economically at least. The Apple iPhone 16 saw a 0.1% YOY growth, which sent the stock tanking for example. But it gained! Not how that works.

you also have 2 teams forced to play in minor league parks this year.

the Athletics had an 18% drop in attendance
the Rays had a 41% drop in attendance

those drops have nothing to do with baseball and are 100% based on circumstance.

remove those 2 teams from the equation and average attendance is up, not down.

The A's drop isn't even in the top 5. That's like saying remove the Dodgers or Mets attendance that carries the high end. 13 teams in a 30 team league saw their attendance decline from last year. That's not good.

Cardinals, Orioles, Rangers, Braves, Astros, Pirates, Twins all had large drops.

More proof that the MLB is better when the Cubs are good

I don't understand what was so objectionable about that. If a guy can only pull the ball he should figure out how to go opposite field...and pay the price until he does. That rule is like the NFL banning dime coverage on 3rd and 15.

The challenge rule will help. It's been great and really efficient in other sports.

I know you covered it in the OP, but I wanted to ask again….because I’ve been told so many times on this board that MLB is dying and will be extinct soon.

These numbers just aren’t back that up. What gives? Who’s lying here?

Because just like everything else, it costs a month salary for some people to go to a game. They clearly are staying home and watching it on tv.

Every sport besides maybe basketball has a controversial overtime. Unless you want 6 hour regular season games or ties, you need some goofiness to make sure games end in a reasonable amount of time.

no, because that's removing teams specifically to skew numbers.

I'm removing teams that have external variables that can't be accounted for with just attendance numbers.
We have no way of knowing what their attendance would be in their normal stadium.
That is why there were removed from the equation.
