They went in with the mindset to leave it all in Lamar's hands...literally.

Couldn't manage the game.

Mahomes had as many rushing attempts as all of the Ravens running backs combined. In related news, the award for Chiefs coach of the game was a tie between John Harbaugh and Todd Monken.

They totally abandoned the very identity of their offense.

Funny how the Ravens abandoned their identity and the Lions doggedly held onto theirs and they both lost.

don’t think Harbaugh or anyone else in that organization will ever be able to justify, or even explain, the reasoning behind that atrocious game plan.

Goodell told them the NFL needs the Chiefs to win for ratings

That’s why

While the Chiefs have a great Defense this year, they are an enigma in the fact that they give up the most yards per rush, on average. Something like 5.3 yards per rush.

BUF, early in the game, was pushing them 3-4 yards off the ball, then abandoned the run for a while. I didn't watch the BAL game because I figured it would be fixed for KC/Swift, but to see this stat today...WOW.

I fully expect Kyle Shannahan to choke it up in the SB and abandon the run as well, despite CMC being the MVP this year.

This isn't true at all and it keeps being repeated so it shows most people haven't bothered to even look this up.

Chiefs rush defense: 25.4 apg 113.2 ypg 4.5 ypa
ravens rush defense: 24.4 apg 109.4 ypg 4.5 ypa

And the Chiefs played the Bills differently than the ravens.
Josh can beat you with his arm. So the Chiefs allowed them to run and throw short because they wanted to take away the big play and force the bills to be perfect.

lamar can't beat you with his arm so they emphasized stopping the run to force the ball into lamar's hand.

Bills abandoned their run game, lost to KC. Ravens abandoned theirs, lost to KC. Either they’re seeing something that think they can exploit and can’t, or they’re just worried about a shootout, which makes no sense - that hasn’t been KC’s identity at all this year. Just weird Buffalo and Baltimore both lost and abandoned their run games in the process.

This is why I think the 49ers win rather easily.

The drive that ended in the INT in the end zone was wild. Just kept chucking it down field every play.

Yeah, in the Ryan Clark video that's been posted here, Rex Ryan said the Chiefs baited the Bill's into running the ball and baited the Ravens into throwing it. They both played right into what Spags wanted them to do. Then once they realized Baltimore had abandoned the run, they just run out Nickel and dime packages the rest of the game and shut down the pass.

Great defensive gameplan from the Chiefs combined with a terrible offensive gameplan from the Ravens and this is the result.

This ^^^ is likely what happened.

What's inexplicable is the Chiefs lost one of their best run stoppers (Gay) early in the game and then lost one of their better pass rushers and still the Ravens refused to pound the ball and the Chiefs D was gassed in the 4th quarter.

How the hell do your only run the ball 6 times in the AFC championship game?

Willie Gay was inactive for the entire game due to neck spasms. He would have been the spy on Lamar Jackson and given him even more fits.

Charles Omenihu went out of the game in the 1st half after a crucial sack. Blew his ACL and his season is now over. With that said, I believe he only had 6 snaps that game. He was suspended for almost the first half of the season after coming over from San Francisco.

And yes, we were gassed at the end. But....victorious.

To me it's less about just running back rushes, but overall rushes (excluding scrambles). KC was like 3rd in defensive EPA per dropback, but 28th in defensive EPA per rush. Baltimore was pretty well-balanced overall as they were 6th in EPA per dropback and 3rd in EPA per rush, and through the the divisional round against Houston, their offensive was pretty well-balanced with 55.8% of plays being a pass/dropback (including sacks and scrambles), but about 50% if you include scrambles.

But in this game, facing one of the best passing defenses in the league but one of the worst rushing defenses, over 80% of their play calls were dropbacks/passes, and even if you exclude Lamar's 5 scrambles, it was still about 72%.

That's just poor play calling, going from a even balanced team, to a pass heavy team, playing into the defensive strength's and avoiding the defensive's weaknesses.
