Mike Trout Trade: Ridiculous Notion?

The Angels have what is considered one of it not The worst farm systems in all of MLB. They are saddled with some awful contracts going forward in Pujols and Hamilton although they have some serious money coming off the books this winter, unfortunately for them the free agent class is very weak and especially for pitcher where they need some serious help. If the Angels traded Trout, sure they would get killed in the media and by fans but they could replenish their farm system and get a couple major leaguers back. i would bet they could get Moncada,Benitendi,Swihart, Holt + couple pitching prospects + Jackie Bradley Jr from the Red Sox in the deal and I think that would be considered a really good deal

If Trout was ever traded it would be lopsided towards whatever team received Trout no matter the prospect haul.
If a team wanted to trade every day players it would likely take two above-average guys at least, along with prospects. I wouldn't even take an all-star straight up for him. Trout is a four-tool player and will be in talks of the best in the league for the next 10-12 years possibly.
IE, I wouldn't trade Trout for Kris Bryant unless I also received two other pieces. Same with stars like Machado or Altuve. It wouldn't be enough for a straight swap for me. Would have to add something else.

So the Red Sox wouldn't give up a couple of prospects( sure they are amazing but they are still only prospects) + a good hitter in Bradley Jr and a decent player in holt for the best player in all of MLB who will give you 10 WAR or close to it every year and who is on a team friendly deal

So ... make a trade that would basically turn the Red Sox into the Angels?

Hamilton's contract isn't that bad. 2017 is the last year of his deal. Since he was trade from Cal to Texas his salary in 2017, is reduced by 13-14% (to offset to difference in state tax) and Texas is picking up this year's money.
Now the owe Albert at least $175 million. But no I wouldn't trade Trout.

The thing is Trout is only 24 years old with four more years of team control. How would a fan base react to knowing that a) your team has no chance of winning for the next four years) and b) your front office won't even bother trying to re-sign a once-in-a-generation player? You can't just look at these players in terms of assets and liabilities. There's far reaching consequences trading away players like Trout. It devastates a fan base and it could take years for them to come back. Sometimes they never do i.e. Cleveland.

because of the market they are in, they cant really trade Trout. They need that headliner. But i agree, their farm system & overall state of their franchise is in a dire position.
Let's just say he was on the table and BOS made an offer. It would have to look like this
- Moncada
- Benitendi
- Kopech or Groome
- Sam Travis
maybe even a 2nd pitcher.

quote:The last player traded that we could say was close to would Miguel Cabrera as he was young (24) and coming off 4 really great seasons for a player of his age.

No way in hell I would accept that, but I guess if LAA really were shopping him this would be as realistic as it would get.

That's not even close to being enough. The Angels will and should demand a young pre-arbitration star position player AND young star pre-arbitration pitcher back in return. Basically two young players who are already major league studs AND dirt cheap because they aren't yet eligible for arbitration. The only teams who fits that bill are the Indians with Lindor and Salazar and maybe the Astros with Correa and McCullers. Those are the type of players the Angels need to be getting back for Trout not a bunch of prospects who've proven squat in the majors.

i would offer seager, urias, jose de leon, cody bellinger, and yadier alvarez and i still think the angels say no

If I was the GM of the LAA, then I'd also demand the team's top prospect along with a haul like the names listed here.

Red Sox would not make that trade.

sure it would. Do some research on the Angels farm system & current MLB roster.

would never happen. Unrealistic

I know all about the issues with the Angels farm system. You still can't trade Trout without getting proven young MLB players back in return.

Yet you think trading four players who haven't played a single inning in the majors for the greatest young player in the history of the game is a fair trade.

A really interesting proposal was brought up by an la sports talk radio host... Trade trout, but mandate that team has to take pujols also
Posted on 7/31/16 at 9:46 pm to FitnessDude
If my team had Trout, and they traded him; they would no longer be my team.

that's how trading works

The longer they wait the worse its going to get for the Angels. Trout very likely won't resign there.
If The Cardinals offered Grichuk(good CF same age as Trout), there top 2 prospects, and took back Pujols contract the Angel would HAVE to say yes
