Feels like MLS has had a few of these (Beckham etc)
Beckham was all name recognition (which certainly helped), while Messi is both name value and he's still arguably one of the best in the world.
This would be like 6th championship Jordan going to play overseas somewhere.

Little know fact - this is the origin of SirWinston's "British" personna - mocking overly sincere American soccer fans who adopt British terms and vernacular.
I feel like a lot of people who end up watching EPL pick up those habits, I for sure am one after watching for a couple of years now.

Miami is playing in Bham tonight. That would have been dope.

Inter Miami
why does the MLS insist on doing these stupid Euro names?

Yeah I hate it. Real Salt Lake is another dumb one

This is pretty significant for MLS, ticket prices all over the place are skyrocketing for any Miami game

There’s absolutely no chance he turns that deal down. He is going to saudi

I can understand Inter being short for International. FC and SC make sense too.
AC and Real don't as those are abbreviation for Italian and Spanish words. Real would work in a more Hispanic town, but Salt Lake City? Haha.

Shot in the arm for MLS with ticket sales, MLS pass through Apple TV and merchandise sales.

He already turned it down. His wife didn’t want to live in Saudi Arabia

Not sure how you pass up $1.2 billion over 2 years. Does he really think going to Miami even with part ownership and the deals with Apple and Adidas will net him more than $1.2 billion over the 2 years or is he looking at the money he could make long term from the deal?
Posted on 6/7/23 at 12:55 pm to uptowntiger84
It was never about the money I don’t think
