Would love unc to join. Don’t think they will separate from duke though.

UNC is the biggest prize left in the SEC’s footprint. Would be a better add than Miami, FSU, Clemson, Ga Tech or anyone else in the ACC. UNC & UVA would be the icing on the cake. If the ACC implodes, then you might look at all the other teams.
I would be perfectly OK if it ended up like this:
East:
UVA
UNC
USC
UGA
FL
KY
TN
Vandy
AL
Aub

West:
KU
MO
OSU
OU
TX
A&M
AR
LSU
MS
MSU

9th largest state population, 7th most NFL players... I'd say that UNC in the SEC could become a power.

While Va Tech and FSU would probably be the best fit cultural wise for SEC fans the SEC would take Virginia and NC over any other schools for marketing reasons.

I’d take Duke and UNC. We’d instantly be the top basketball conference.

UNC is a huge brand, same with clemson, fsu and miami.

UNC is definitely a huge brand. Clemson? Not so much. They don't bring any value to the SEC.

The only reason people bring up Clemson is because they had a good run in football during a 5 year stretch. That doesn't make them a big brand that a conference like the SEC has to get.

If it were up to me I'd kick mizzou out (they can go join the big 10) and vandy out. Bring in UNC and Miami or unc and your choice of Duke, Virginia, or Virginia tech.

How many people in America would put UNC vs Kansas on paper and say Kansas is the better option. It’s a false equivalency. Yeah they share loose similarities but UNC is a premier national brand and Kansas isn’t. North Carolina is in the south. Kansas isn’t. North Carolina is in one of the most talent rich football states in America. Kansas isn’t.

This is pretty smart. Charlotte, besides being 22nd biggest metro area and booming, is still a big hub for American Airlines (since US Air acquisition, is annually neck and neck with SF as 2nd largest financial city in US, SEC network is there I believe, and now that coach K is retired not unreasonable to expect them slipping back to an average ACC team so that traditional basketball rivalry isn’t worth sticking around for if that was some emotional roadblock. Doesn’t invade any other footprints in current SEC. Also really hurts the ACC and opens the door for Virginia to be next expansion area that is still regional to at least part of the conference. Again strategically a wise decision.

So we want nothing but powerhouses in this league, amirite? No weak sisters.

That fine. Just get ready to lose a lot more games than you are used to.

Besides basketball, which is FAR secondary to football, UNC doesn't bring much to the table in the SEC. Clearly geography is immaterial now with two LA schools joining a majority midwestern conference. If the SEC is going to poach more teams they don't need to be concerned if they are in the "SEC footprint".

Horrible take.

UNC might be tbe best school to add to the SEC out of non Big-10 options not called Notre Dame that are left. Brings in NC market (Charlotte and Raleigh are both exploding), great academics, great basketball, and solid all around athletic program. Plus it's a MAJOR national brand.

Despite the Big Ten's move away from a regional conference, UNC, UVA, Clemson, Florida State, Miami or Va Tech, all allow the SEC to continue to expand while keeping it's geographic footprint in the South.

Until the "super-league" era begins and the top 35-50 teams break off to do their own thing, I think the SEC will only expand into untapped Southern markets. It just means more.
