Outside (for now) looking in. I'd love UNC, Miami, UVA, and MAYBE Duke or Kansas.

Right now I think the better basketball league is the BigXII. TT, KU, UA, Baylor is a better big 4 than any other league can boast. Take the teams I want and suddenly UNC, UVA, UK, Duke/Kansas looks a lot better.

Right now the Big10 has the #9, #20, #23, #27 ranked universities academically (According to US News and World Reports). The SEC has #14 (Vandy), #28 (Florida), #48 (Georgia), and #68 (Aggy). Pick up the schools I like and that adds #9 (Duke), #25 (UVA), #28 (UNC), #55 (Miami). Not enough to pass the Big10 but at least a little closer.

The SEC already has a school for the south Carolina market.

That's like saying Cal has the California market.

You think South Carolina is on par with UNC basketball?

SEC would finally get another blueblood to add to Kentucky as the sole blueblood in the SEC in basketball.

Or from NOVA. For a long time it was easier for North Carolina kids to get into UVA and NOVA kids to get into UNC than into the school in their home state.

The B1G also has several other top 50 universities you didn’t mention.

Sure but I was doing top 4's. The message was already longer than I wanted it to be. I just mean that my 4 picks are decent academic additions in addition to being really good basketball additions, and a few are in states (UVA, UNC) or at least in parts of a state not already covered (Miami).

I don't think this is really a priority.

There are very few basketball bluebloods and most of them are not highly valuable athletic programs overall: North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas. Then probably UCLA, Indiana, Syracuse, Michigan State, maybe UCONN?

Basketball is nice but in terms of revenue even elite basketball doesn't really compare to the football revenue. A lot of that is probably the foolishness of the NCAA tournament destroying the significance of the regular season.

NC State is the most underachieving and disappointing athletic program in the country. They have so much potential to at least be the best football program in North Carolina yet they consistently fail on success beyond an occasional year here or there in baseball and basketball.

This isn’t true. I know several graduates who were neither of these things.

They are a school that pumps out elitist douchebags with regularity, so culturally they would not be a fit at all.

All for UNC joining. Great state, athletic tradition and traveling fan base. I don’t love Duke but they would add a lot of TV sets in NYC market, both grads and bandwagon fans.

Florida and Vanderbilt have women’s lacrosse teams that compete in the American Athletic Conference. Their lacrosse teams would find a suitable affiliate conference.

basketball and academics have nothing to do with the consideration of these realignments. This is all about football and dollars to be generated from it.

NC State is the correct move for the SEC. They're a better fit culturally, and just by being associated with the SEC it will push NSCU ahead of the other schools in NC. It might take some time, but eventually (especially football) NC state would be hands down THE football school in the state. Hell, even if a school like ECU or App state joined the SEC tomorrow, and yes I know that's not realistic...but if they did they'd be the best football school in the state in 5 years. I think people underestimate the transformative power of association with the SEC. The TV money, the schedule, everything is raised. You could take almost any school in the country and put them in the SEC, and they'd be way better off than they are now. They'd get their arse kicked on a weekly basis in football, but Vandy doesn't seem to mind.

Exactly, ucla mens volleyball has won 19 ncaa titles and the school still joined the big ten, which does not have mens volleyball.

Still is, especially if you are from Charlotte or Raleigh. UNC has location quotas by county. So you have a much better chance of you’re from some podunk county than if you live in a big metro

That's VERY misleading. There are currently 10 B1G schools with Men's Volleyball under the BTMVA (Big Ten Mens Volleyball Association). Adding USC and UCLA will almost assuredly create a B1G Men's Volleyball Conference. Ohio State is elite at Men's Volleyball as well winning the National Title in 2011, 2016 and 2017! Instant rivals with UCLA.

Ohio State
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan St
Minnesota
Northwestern
Purdue
Wisconsin
USC
UCLA

This shouldn't be a problem at all.
