It's not his job to intercept passes yet he does have 7 INTs.
All that being said, he doesn't remotely deserve the Heisman, but it's not just because he has 1 sack.
Only one person should even be at the Heisman ceremony, Manziel. He just had a better year than Cam Newton and one of the best ever for a QB in college. Just give him the award he deserves.

Not defending Te'O because it think he's over-hyped too, but the Lombardi award goes to lineman and linebackers.

I don't think he should win it either but it's not because of the lack of sacks. He's a MLB, not a pass rusher.

Yeah, I shouldn't have said "get after the QB", but you'd think the best "lineman" in the country would have more than 1 sack. That is what "linemen" do, right?
And he most certainly is supposed to stuff the run. Guess I'd expect tGOAT to have more than 5 TFL during his peak.

To be fair, CJ Mosley has 4, and Kevin Minter has three. I don't know how Minter got his, but CJ didn't just get lucky that a QB was running out of the pocket and get him, he blitzed and got there. Te'o has blitzed and proven that he's just not that good at it.

To be precise: 4 of his 7 came off tipped passes and 2 came from QBs throwing the ball right to him. His other one was a decent play in coverage.

I think, from what I remember, that the two thrown right at him weren't exactly "right at him" he did display good agility with his ability to jump in front of those balls, but even then that is three INTs. Big fricking deal.

Yes, I realize Mathieu was up against stiffer competition for the Heisman, but you can't say that Te'o's statistics outshine Manziel's.

I'm shocked how many stupid people are comparing what he has done to players from years past, like it has any bearing on this year. Or comparing him to players on lower profile teams. It's the Heisman, it's generally always great players on high profile teams. There's no sense in bitching about it
