The offense was boring. That game just wasn't as hyped as it usually was.

I'm speaking for an unbiased observer. You're a FL fan so naturally you're biased.

And I'm not playing devils advocate at all. I'm shocked people have a problem with T'eo being a Heisman contender. Truly & utterly shocked.

Cam Newton didnt do shite in d-1 before he won the Heisman.

Some of you people are full blown retards.

Now the previous seasons matter? Lol, ok

my main problem is he's half the player that suh or willis were

but because he has a ~*story*~, neat tattoos, and plays for an undefeated notre dame, the voters are falling over themselves

same thing happened with mark ingram and his prison dad ~*story*~, for the record

This is a pretty dumb thread. Te'o plays in a 3-4 defense in which the DL rush the passer and the DC rarely, if ever, calls blitzes. Te'o's job is to roam the short intermediary middle of the field in passing downs.

But no way man, he should ignore the scheme and just blitz and try to get sacks.

I also get a good chuckle out of people who poo-poo his INTs. It shows a pretty clear lack of knowledge of Te's ability to re-route WRs and TEs, that he shows good technique and discipline in his drops, and has great instincts and awareness.

As one example, I've seen some people reference the INT against USC - that the USC QB threw the pick right at Te'o. Well, yeah, but that's because his technique and instincts were perfect. He didn't bite on the play action, dropped into the right zone, looked left to find the boundary WR, and then over his field side shoulder to identify Marquise Lee on a crossing route, and then got his back around to make a play on the ball. But yeah, pretty routine stuff.

Did Patrick Willis or Suh play this year?

Wtf do thry have to do with anything?

This year was a very very weak year for superstar players.

Why is it a given that people think he's gonna win it? I bet Manziel wins it.

It's not a dumb thread, the dude is overrated. He's not even the best LB in the country this year, much less the most decorated LB of all-time.

And I never poo-poo'd his INTs

it's a criticism of the stupid criteria that awards voters use, mostly

god forbid they give the awards to the best players (clowney, manziel) instead

Still waiting for the argument as to why Te'O deserves the Heisman.

-Manziel is only the 5th player in college football history to throw for over 3,000 and run for over 1,000 in the same year, and he did it in 11 games.

-Manziel leads the nation in total touchdowns.

-Manziel needs 1 rushing touchdown to be only the 3rd player in college football history to run and throw for 20+ touchdowns apiece.

-Manziel is one rushing TD away from being the first player ever to join both the 3000/1000 and 20/20 clubs AT THE SAME TIME.

-Manziel averages more total offense than half of the teams in college football

The argument for Te'o?

100 plus tackles
7 INTs (an INT in their 3 biggest games on national TV)
#1 team in the country
#1 defense in the country
Undisputed leader of the team
Consummate student-athlete

He fits the literal definition of the Heisman standards to a "T".

The problem is that people are too geeky about stats when it comes to the Heisman. Defensive players are not going to rack up stats. If they are on a great defense (like Te'o), they are on the field for FAR fewer snaps than an offensive player.

Manziel certainly deserves to be in the hunt. He certainly has great numbers, but his best numbers were put up against bad teams, especially in garbage time when his team was already up 3 TDs. In most years, he wouldn't stand a chance because most Heisman winners need to win their biggest games, and he went 1-2 in his biggest games. But this is a down year.

His stats overall may be better than Newton's, but Newton's stats were far better in big games.

If the award is just for best stats, then make it a purely offensive award and delete the standard set forth on the website. Just call it, the Heisman Stats Award.

So you're admitting he's the best LB only bc of his INTs

Not b/c of tackles, forced fumbles, TFL, sacks, etc
