Luke Kuechly

7× Pro Bowl (2013–2019)
5× First-team All-Pro (2013–2015, 2017, 2018)
2× Second-team All-Pro (2016, 2019)

Zach Thomas

7× Pro Bowl (1999–2003, 2005, 2006)
5× First-team All-Pro (1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2006)
2× Second-team All-Pro (2001, 2005)

Crazy how similar their NFL career stats are.

Who is the better LB and why?

A red raider legend.

Hard to believe that he was a 5th round draft pick

Luke
But I’m biased

(Luke was also a DPOTY and DROY)

It doesn’t change your point at all, but can we leave off pro bowl appearances as a qualifier for someone being good.

Mitch Trubisky and Vince Young both have pro bowl appearances.

Thomas grossly overrated

He got into several pro bowls by his name, not his play.

That’s usually what Pro Bowls are

Do you mean his all pros?

Luke easily. He’s the best coverage LB of all-time

I hope it's not just recency bias, but I would say Luke. He was a dominant player before the concussion issues. He did play alongside prime Thomas Davis, though. Not sure what Zach Thomas had around him in the LB corps.

Kuechly did all of that in half the time

I don’t remember Z Thomas being able to play in space that well. Again he played in a different era.

Kuechly had a shorter career to do all that and I think is easily better than Thomas.

Kuechly, but that's mainly because I saw him twice a year as a jealous Saints fan that the Panthers had this stud. Dude was incredible.

Interestingly, I knew rookie Alvin Kamara was the real deal when he took a hard goal-line hit from Kuechly, and seemingly brushed it off by maintaining his balance and falling forward into the endzone for an unforgettable 2 yard TD. That doesn't happen to Kuechly unless you are a special back.

Luke for sure

Never really saw Zach Thomas just take over games from the LB position like Luke did

Kuechly

You could argue for most of his career, any given year, that he was the best defensive player in the league

Not really. It wasn’t like a 20 or 30 year difference.

Zach played 13 seasons to make 5X Frist team All-Pro.

Luke played 8 seasons to make 5X First team All-Pro.
