I no longer live in Louisiana and I am no longer a NBA fan for MANY reasons, but I was a Dallas Maverick fan the year you were born. They were the closet NBA team. I am also NOT a Saints' fan! LSU is the only STATE team there is!

"ETA: I don't like the Saints and I lived in Louisiana for the first 28 years of my life. "
That's kinda weird, unless you lived in shreveport which isn't really LA anyway

sorry Adam, i grew up rooting for the rockets, not the charlotte hornets.
When I think of the Hornets I think of Alonzo Mourning, Mugsy Bogues and Grandmama.

Wow, a frontrunner who pulls for a team that can't get out of the first round!

I was a Laker fan as a kid just to piss my father off.
He was a typical 1950-1980's Celtics fan-racist in the south who pulled for them because of all their white players.
I pulled for the showtime Lakers of magic, Kareem and that hippie, Kurt Rambis.

The old cliche is that pro athletes don't care where they live, but I don't buy that. Ask former Saints players what they miss most and they'll all instantly say "the oysters at Drago's".
This city (assuming you have money and live in the actual city limits) grabs a hold of you. There's always something going on, and much of it is unique to New Orleans.
Pro athletes care about 4 or 5 things: the team/teammates, the quality of the facilities, the food, the quality of the extracurricular activities, and the cost v's style of living.
Downtown or uptown New Orleans fares very well in all of those categories. The only real negative is lack of exposure (but CP and Reggie have proved you can make a mark here) and quality of the Hornets' practice facility.

Well I've abided by the rules by rooting for the Spurs...
...and the Cowboys too.

word. i rock the christian audigier daily.
Anyway, my point is that word gets out quickly. Both the NBA and NFL are tight circles. When people see firsthand the lifestyles that Reggie and CP3 enjoy in New Orleans (living in multimillion condos with beautiful views of the river, close to the casino, within walking distance of some of the best clubs in the deep south, close to a Vegas quality casino, walking distance of the best restaurants in the south) - they say "hey.. New Orleans is cool as shite".

And for those who think the Saints-Cowboys issue is a 'one sided rivalry' (even though it's not a rivalry) because the Saints have won six outta seven, I laugh. It's all about the championships...hell, you could even hold some division titles over our heads to make it work.
But damn, you are telling me you wouldn't trade those six wins over Dallas for a Super Bowl here or there. 5 wins in 8 Super Bowls trumps the Saints lone appearance in the NFC title game.
So what if the Saints have owned Dallas in some reg. season matchups...I think Drew Brees and Co. would rather have a title to hang their hat on. You?

This is so ridiculous. How many championships have the Cowboys won while Drew Brees and Co have been in the NFL? How many Playoff games even?
What happened in 1996 or 1994 or 1978 doesn't really matter in the present. In fact, it makes it more fun when the Saints run off 6 straight and the Cowboys fans cling stubbornly to titles that happened before they even became football fans.
I'm 30 years old and have been going to Saints games since I was 5. I only remember the Cowboys beating the Saints twice in my lifetime. Both were in Dallas and they are very vague memories.

For most athletes all of those come in a distant second to MONEY

I just wanted to point this out again:
GeauxWarrior12 became a Spurs fan when Duncan was drafted--the year they won a title.
GeauxWarrior12 then calls us Hornets fans bandwagon-jumpers.
Great job, GeauxWarrior12. You suck.

It's about championships, not playoff wins.

That just shows how much you guys regard the Cowboys as a team to beat. That means you hold them to a higher standard.
And 'rivalries' are something based on history. Thus, championships become relevant.
