Non-select enrollments will be split up into three brackets

the talk is the Select bracket finals games will be played in the Superdome on the Thursday

5 brackets for non select

if they put the selects on thursday... that right there might be the final straw

Question: not sure if it has been asked, is West Monroe a select team? Heard from a Curtis buddy that they will be, not sure if true.

The butthurt is strong on the Northshore

And it's pretty sad that team they all so strongly oppose competing against can't make it to Thanksgiving in the playoffs.

I'm still confused as to what U-High is considered. There seems to be so many conflicting opinions.

I haven't really followed this, but is it going to be straight split between private and public schools? Or will some be merged together?

They will not break away. Also, they can stop using the excuse about gates at contest. Unless they are a Curtis or someone like that, they can't say it.

Dear God... Broseph the public schools keep saying this but why is the association allowing them to play each other? The money is with the privates and we all know this. If the money is with the privates then why couldn't they form their own association?

Some public will be part of the "select" teams. Something along the lines of having their own district/school board = select.

Apparently it will be a soft split, as all districts will remain the same for the next two years but the playoffs will now be broken into 5 open enrollment and 2 select enrollment brackets instead of 5 brackets based solely on enrollment numbers.

the main area where there is an issue of public/private is SELA. the only reason it became an issue is race

SE Louisiana is full of growing suburban schools that appear to have the resources and the demographics to be dominant programs on par with West Monroe and the private school powers.

But for some reason, these schools in Ascension, Livingston, St. Charles, Jefferson and St. Tammany in particular haven't reached their potential yet.

Around BR, I see Denham Springs and Dutchtown as two chronic underachievers. They have great talent and support at those schools. They should be semifinal-type programs at least. Same with the St. Charles schools.

I was hoping for a solution that would involve an "open" football classification that included ALL 5A schools and "select" private schools that would be composed of all 4A privates playing up and with some creative defining of select privates that would push Evangel and Curtis into the open class.

Here's my reasoning: 5A, as it is now, is almost EXCLUSIVELY metro schools from the state's 8 metro areas (Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Houma and New Orleans).

There are a few exceptions to this -- Natchitoches, Ruston, the two Lafourche schools, maybe NISH and Ponchatoula -- but the rest are well within the greater metro areas of their cities and, like the private schools, compete for players within those metros.

That's very hard for a school like Winnfield or Livonia or Kinder to compete with. I get that. So get all of these competitive metro schools in one division. Give all schools the option to play into the open division if they want, so Karr might want to play up for football to continue to compete for players based on competition.

Then we can have a super class with West Monroe, Curtis, Evangel, Rummel, Karr, etc.

Everything else at the Superdome Classic would be a prelim to THAT game. Right now, the whole superdome classic is going to be a sham. ... hell, I don't even know how you have one any more. I guess the private/select championship will be determined around Thanksgiving and after that, nobody will care any more because the good teams will be finished.
