We’re now in a time where Illinois and Indiana are more competent programs than Wisconsin, what a time to be alive.

At least Norvell had two years of success. Fickell has been an unmitigated disaster in every aspect.

So Wisconsin is saying that they didn't give the head coach enough resources to compete but will start.

So how long of a leash does he get once 'fully funded'? 1 year? 3 years?

I'm not saying Fickell is the answer at Wisconsin but if he hasn't had the resources you can't expect them to be successful.

Am I mistaken?

Shocking really

Fickell was such a highly touted coach a couple of years ago

Newish Chancellor is a count and is tight with the purse strings for the athletic programs despite having a massive war chest.

Wisconsin has struggled to recruit and have yet to land a QB close to Russel Wilson since Bert left who imo was the best recruiter in the program history.

You’re not totally mistaken, but they aren’t 18th in spending and yet they are likely the worst team in the big ten. There’s no improvement (in fact the opposite) and his teams fold at the slightest bit of adversity.

Will throwing money at the problem make them somewhat better next year? Probably, but to your point, what if it doesn’t because he’s a crap coach? Then you spent a bunch of money and still have a $19 million buyout to deal with. Do you then give him another “fully funded” year?

And so you give him more to hire better assistants. What evidence is there that he can hire better assistants? They dumped Longo (good) but their offense is worse.

Money matters but plenty of schools spending tons of money with crap results because their coaches are garbage.

Could next year be a ‘make a bowl game or your fired’ type of year?

Would a bowl game be enough to make the fans happy?

I know the program has a good bowl run so I don’t know if that would be enough.

Yes

FSU is not poor but it does not have SEC or BIG money.

Wisconsin plays Oregon this week, then an open date.

I refuse to believe Fickell is safe until next week. Another ugly blowout loss leading into an open date is perfect timing to fire a coach midseason.

Yeah this seems like a divorce that would benefit both parties.

Especially if they get shutout or held to less than 10 it's again. Their offense this year under Fickell is hilariously bad.

They aren't poor but their athletic dept takes over $20 million every year in public funding. Plus they just spent a shitload of money renovating their stadium.

These people crack me up. Bang their chest about how much money they deserve because of eyeballs on football and try to tear their conference apart.

Then go on to have the worst records in recent school history and completely embarrass themselves.

I don’t understand how a university/program like FSU struggles with fan support and money.

For most of their history, they were a crappy state school

Then for a few decades they were a crappy state school with a good football team.

These days it’s a better school.

But they don’t have lot of successful wealthy old alumni. They have some NFL players but that’s kind of it.

The panhandle is redneck poor and lots of competition for college athletic dollars just in their state.

I express shallow disappointment with FSU’s results so far this year
