No one is wasting their time on Quebec City and Hartford.

quote:

Quebec City doesn’t create as many new fans. In fact, it splits an already existing and historic market in Quebec. While the Montreal Canadiens are likely fine with the Nordiques returning, the NHL isn’t interested in fracturing that market at this time. Especially when the league is having issues connecting with new fans outside of their two newest markets.

quote:

The Coyotes are located in the Western part of the United States and play in the Central Division. Arizona is thousands of miles away from Quebec, and putting the Coyotes in Quebec would take them thousands of miles away from their Western Conference counterparts.

quote:

The Red Wings are not moving to the West, especially since they fought to get out of the conference, to begin with. Detroit, along with the Columbus Blue Jackets, moved to the Eastern Conference after the 2012-13 season.

The Red Wings are not going to open themselves up to a brutal travel schedule just so the NHL can split one of their historic markets. Columbus also won’t move to the West to accommodate the return of the Nordiques.

quote:

The Canadian dollar is currently worth $0.74 US, presenting a few issues for a potential relocated Coyotes team. The biggest issue is revenue. For the Nordiques to generate the revenue Seattle and Vegas generate, they need to charge their fans at a much higher rate given the currency difference.

Columbus hasn’t done enough in their history to have a choice

League says you’re going West, you’re going West.

NHL needs to lean into the most hockey-mad portion of the continent and go back to Quebec or Hartford, where sellouts and rivalries are guaranteed

Houston or KC would also work too

Hilarious coming from a L.A. guy and a town that's lost not one but two NFL franchises and the SoFi stadium design is flat out idiotic. How in the world do you have a covered stadium that still lets the rain come in ?

They have still been around long enough I don't see the league moving them. I imagine the Blue Jackets would take some course of action to fight it. There is already a shitload of East Coast teams. We don't need anymore unless there's expansion on the horizon to balance out the divisions. And the weak Canadian dollar and a market that already supports the league are still strike(s) against both markets. Houston and Salt Lake City would be much better options.

No to a southern city. Too many Northern cities that make more sense: Portland, Milwaukee, Quebec City, Salt Lake City or Cleveland.

Portland is a no-go, as it's a small city that already has a winter sports anchor. Same as Milwaukee and SLC. Cleveland is two hours from Columbus, which already has a team. Quebec is the "best" of what you listed, but is also fighting an uphill economic battle because there is no major corporate backing in QC, and as we have seen with the dogshit, thieving Jets, a small market of just fans isn't enough. You have to have corporate dollars.

For that reason alone, Houston or KC make far more sense.

Have to disagree with you. Think Milwaukee would rather a hockey team than a basketball team. Also think Portland would love another sports team and the greater Portland population is over 2 million, the fans don’t only live in the city limits. Salt Lake City is a winter town a shot at a hockey team I think their support would be great. Quebec City would just be fun to add a new city and a Canadian one at that.

Yet 3 southern cities(Miami, Raleigh & Dallas) have teams in the conference finals.

Your reasoning makes no sense.

Arizona relocating to Quebec would just give Canadians another team to be frustrated with. That roster is not built to win, but has accumulated some nice players through the draft. If they can do anything consistently good in that organization I'd say they're still about five years away from challenging for a playoff spot.

Otherwise, KC to match up with St. Louis, Houston to match up with Dallas would be my first two choices.

If I was pro Houston, now is the time to start rooting against Salt Lake City getting the Olympics.

quote:

If sharing an arena long-term is something the NHL wishes to avoid, they can. Salt Lake City wants to host the 2030 Winter Olympics and would build a hockey arena to help facilitate that. Perhaps the Coyotes share an arena with the Jazz until the new building is complete.

They care more about hockey in Wisconsin than they do basketball. Milwaukee makes sense but won't happen.

The more I think about this KC is the logical choice. Just need an owner or current owner to load up the moving truck.

Kansas City actually has some pretty thriving youth programs and a metro high school as well as a high school team that plays in the Midwest Hockey League. More hockey there than many if you may realize.

Supposedly there's no NHL team in WI because of the Blackhawks ownership.

I wondered if the Blackhawks would try to block a team from going there. But he was in some hot water 2 years ago. So I doubt Wirtz has the same clout he once had.

Daly doesn't sound as optimistic on KC as some here. But maybe something has changed since then.

quote:

“In evaluating potential locations for NHL teams, we typically look at three things: One, whether the market has or is building a suitable arena facility; two, the demographics of the market and whether they suggest an ability to support an NHL franchise; and, three, whether there is qualified and interested ownership to own and operate the franchise,” Daly wrote. “While the Sprint Center certainly checks off the first of those boxes, the other two issues remain a work in progress.”

During the search for a new expansion team two years ago, Daly wrote that no interest came in from the metro area.

How are you defining worst?

Attendance? Miami, Oakland, DC, Indy all worse.
Falcons were at the bottom of the NFL, but the Braves and Hawks are at the top of their respective leagues in attendance

Trashy fans? Phily, Miami, New York, LA

Atlanta is about middle of the pack as a sports town
