Well considering I have owned a baseball school for the last 12 years and am there all day every day I know for a fact I am around kids baseball more than anyone on here.
Ohhh...one of those guys

I can assure you I have been around it more than you the last 15 years.
Well considering I've played, umpired, coached and viewed my son playing ball since the age of 5 (he's a HS senior now....playing ball)....it's really not that big a difference on how much MORE baseball knowledge or how much more TIME you've been around it.
The point is that you don't KNOW it was the coaches fault Tommy Lasorda.....

the kid was squared around to bunt man...it just happened so fast he couldnt turn his back to the pitch

I can't prove it, but it seems to me that more freakish accidental deaths in LL have occurred in the last 30 years than in the previous 30. I'm not sure why.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with how fast information spreads now compared to then.

True, PM.
But that has already been expressed twice on this thread.

ok Mr Name Drop
As TDs resident expert on dropping names I am going to have to say that was the worst name drop in TD history!

Is this thread still on topic?
Im wondering whats the worst injury posters sustained while playing baseball... Little league through whatever level they played at.
I played since i was 5 through high school. I was never injured beyond a few ankle sprangs. I leaned in to a lot of balls, and i never got out of the way of being hit by a pitch. Also i was a pitcher and I never had arm/shoulder problems until my current slow pitch softball career.
maybe this deserves its own thread

i got a concussion/bruising b/c i was playing 3rd on an all-star team (i had never really played it before) and i didn't understand the concept of the "hot corner" and got smacked. i was totally not paying attention, so i deserved it

I got hit in the face by a pitch intentionally. The pitcher and I hated each other. He threw it up and in, i leaned back a little, but it had a lot of tail on it and got me.

WAY back when, i was so good that baseball bored me to tears.
due to the typical "coach's kid" scenario, i wasn't allowed to play SS on the team i was on for a few years (on that all-star team, however, the SS was the best player in the league, so there was no argument
)
so i was often left to be bored as hell when i wasn't pitching (mainly roaming CF, but i played all over)

i had an opposite scenario happen once
i got pulled b/c there was this really horrible kid batting and i felt bad for him and gave him easy shite to hit. we were up and there was nobody on base. it was his inning to be the sacrificial lamb, so i felt bad.

I played LL thru college, then Sr. League baseball till age 50.
Never got hit by a pitch because I used an open stance (think Juan Gonzalez) which gave me a better look at the ball early in its flight.
Did get spiked really bad at age 14. Still have the scar on my knee.

I was playing 3rd in LL and I wasn't paying attention when we were warming up before the game. The coach hit one to me and it knocked all of my front teeth out. My braces actually kept them in my mouth.
My worst was when I shattered my hand playing 1st when I was 18. The SS threw a super high pitch and when I jumped for it the runner took out my legs. It broke all of the bones in my hand and tore a few ligaments. It was a 6 hour surgery that required a bunch of pins and a cast for 6 months.

Playing 3B and not paying attention is a bad combination.
Posted on 6/6/11 at 12:42 pm to Zach
yeah. 2/4 stories posted were that situation

Playing 3B is like riding a motorcycle. Assume that every driver is trying to kill you.

I honestly was nervous with each pitch. Because my arm sucked realative to the position, I had to play really close. I took a few bad hops off the head but no lost teeth.

I never played infield (besides pitcher which i fielded well imho) in high school, but i fearlessly play 3B for softball and expect to get hurt one day.
