Some of the competing 12 year olds are actually 13 now, and the teams I referred to are compiled with kids that will be playing at Teurlings, STM, Sam Houston, Barbe, St. Louis, etc.
These are perennial state champion contenders, if you are not familiar with Louisiana baseball.
Trust me when I tell you they compete at the JV level of the majority of high schools in this state. And this state's baseball reputation isn't lacking in credibility.

a relative of one of my best friends....
all the coaching in the world can't make a kid do it right everytime.
footballers are taught from day one not to put their heads down yet......
fwiw .. I refused to pitch or attempt to pitch a kid that left his glove hand out all through his motion rather than tucking it... it's not just a balance thing but the pitchers gloved tucked on his chest helps protect his heart and has his hand in the right spot for quick reaction to deflect or catch a head bound ball.
it is unfortunate when it happens no doubt - but just as many kids drop dead of heart issues playing basketball or soccer - any sport is dangerous. period.
