USC has been stuck in neutral for 15 years and now the schedule/conference is tougher. Riley might still work out, but USC is going to have a tough time making the CFP in a crowded Big Ten.

Damn they should let those entertainers and business owners buy their Nepo babies into that overrated college again.

That is awful. Can you imagine that here?

With NIL and schools now able to pay players, I think we will see a shift in the next 3-4 years to the NFL head coaching model of churn in burn. Short term contracts, you get 2-3 seasons, and then it’s on to the next coach.

Yeah the days of "building a program" (sorry Dabo) are over.

And these semi-pros aren't wearing the Maize and Blue or Purple and Gold because they need your coach and love your campus (they love your schools and fans SO MUCH they'll hop in the Portal for a,$100 raise and a pork sandwich.

The sport is run by players now, just like the NFL...but unlike the NFL which has structure, its mercenaries in College with no long term contracts but for the,Coach.

And that's gonna end. Mercenary coaches to come in and "coach up" the mercenary players. You can't have players,AND Coaches holding your program hostage....and Schools have already chosen players...sorry Dabo.

The future of the program is much like LSUs currently. Way too much money invested into the HC to even consider making a change at the top before the next 2-3 seasons play out.

The future is bright, and I don't necessarily agree with the OP's assessment of SC's talent this season. I think the Trojans lose 3, 4 at worst games and win a bowl game. The incoming recruiting class will cure a lot of ailments.

No amount of soft arse California 5 star recruits is going to change the person Lincoln Riley is - which is his fatal flaw.

Colin Cowerd even said on his podcast that you can see Lynn’s defense regressing. It’s the way they practice.

Pokes couldn’t even afford the interest on his buyout let alone paying him. Pipe dream.

The condoms are stuck with him. No matter who they hire as DC, LR controls the recruits and will never be able to build a team to compete on D. He is all O and the more time that passes without any D the harder it will be to ever recruit that side as recruits see his history littered with failure on defense.

NIL can only take you so far as good recruits want a chance at NFL. And know they will never get it there.

His best D was handed to him by Bob. And every year after it got worse and worse. He had Baker, Kyler and Hurts for gods sake and still couldn’t win it all. Because he does not value defense nor does he know who to recruit on that side.

Oregon got Matayo, a first round edge, because Riley was all in on him at TE
