Weird situation in Winnfield vs Many. Winnfield could not stop Many's punt returner. So instead of punting, they lined up in FG formation and kicked a field goal "attempt." The applicable rule is as follows:

quote:

Under NFHS (high school) rules (except Texas, which plays largely by NCAA rules), a field goal attempt is no different from any other scrimmage kick (punt, drop kick). If the field goal attempt is no good and enters the end zone it is a touchback (NFHS rules do not allow a scrimmage kick or free kick to be advanced if it crosses the goal line). If the ball becomes dead on the field the defensive team will next put the ball in play from that point. If a field goal is blocked behind the line of scrimmage either team may pick it up and return it.

They did it several times. Once it was blocked but the rest of the time it stopped the long punt returns. I don't know why they didn't just punt it out of bounds.

Reading this all I can think about is how Auburn beat Bama a few years ago

and shanked a gimme FG in OT which would have beaten BM

Central is looking pretty tough I think Sid edwards is trying to get past that 1-2 playoff win ceiling. Of course this has been going on for years but they are putting up tons of points on the scoreboard this time.

West Monroe didn’t have a punter one year, but had a good kicker. Lined up in FG formation all year long. As long as it doesn’t cross the goal line, it’s just like a punt.

I've been removed from the program for about 10 years now, so I can't really answer that question. But I know it was a big thing back then. 3/4 of the football players that graduated with my kid were a year older.
article in new star years ago had it at 85%.... that's a lot of extra years of tuition at taxpayer expense

It’s still like a punt if it crosses goal line. Touchback. Ball at 20.

To clarify what I meant was many people think a short field goal goes back to where the ball was kicked. WM used the FG as a punt for a year. Opponents got the ball where it came to rest unless it was in the endzone to which they got it at the 20. I had a coach ask why we were trying a 50ish yard FG and were going to give the other team great field position. He was dumbfounded when I said they’ll get it at the 20 if we at least it made it to the endzone.

How did the rbs look at the Dutchtown vs Woodlawn look? They helped me win the Ascension Parish middle school track championship? Sampson is very good obviously but Givens at Woodlawn shouldn’t be overlooked

Anyone reading this thread connected to the St. Thomas Aquinas football team or familiar? They had a kid leave the field in the ambo on Friday with what looks like a spine/head injury. Just checking to see if anyone knows if he is ok.

That 4* kicker will do something you never even dreamed of.
Play Division I college football for free just like his dad did under Saban.
