I like that playoff idea. Would have the 3 game wild card series all hosted by the higher seeded team so there wouldnt be travel days off and it would allow the WC round to be wrapped up within 3-4 days so teams with bye aren’t sitting idle for a 7-10 days from the end of regular season and 1st divisional round game

I don't know how anybody can go "Oh man, the quality of play in baseball is excellent right now. You have these fantastic 85 and 86 win teams making the Wild Card game. We need more teams!"

The ONLY way I'd want this would be with a balanced NL schedule.Charlotte,Tampa and Miami would make for some
horrible home schedules for the Braves.

I think Oakland will get something figured out even if they have to build on the coliseum site.

San Antonio has to be considered

Miami should move to Jacksonville tbh

You make a very strong case. I like your realignment idea. And Portland Needles is a really good name. But any new stadium would have to have a retractable roof. And how starved for baseball is Portland? I’m sure Seattle would love to have a close rival.

Rob Manfred was on one of the Astros home opener telecasts being interviewed and this topic was brought up. He specifically mentioned San Antonio and Montreal as expansion candidates.

Only the teams playing in the WS win a pennant. You mean just division winners I think
We don’t see too many NFL divisions with losing winners. It happens but not too often

I actually don’t like the idea of expansion. We’re in sort of the beginning stages of a new golden age of baseball with all of the young stars and the last thing I’d want to see os to have the talent even more spread out.
If they’re looking to get into other markets the need to relocate Tampa and Oakland IMO.
I like the idea of retraction more than expansion.

With baseball historically rigid stance on gambling- I see no way they would ever approve a team in Vegas. The all time hit king is completely disowned for crying out loud

Braves and Reds should go into the West Division for old times sake.

Vegas would be like combining the altitude of Coors Field with the oppressive heat of Houston. Kind of like the Diamondbacks field on steroids. It would not be a good place to play.

Give me Charlotte and Austin.
Next up Portland, Indy, or Okc.

It would be awful. The only sport that makes 10000% sense to be in vegas isnt, and thats an NBA team.

Vegas wouldn't be a good city for baseball. There is no surrounding towns or population. The 2 million in the greater metro area is it for 100s of miles.
Interesting argument but I bet most of the ticket sales would be tourists

Nashville? They already have a AAA A's affiliate.

With the NHL and NHL moving to Vegas, I wouldn't doubt Vegas be in the mix at some point.

Yea, I am not sure how many more pro teams Vegas can support. The only cities with more than 2 pro franchises in their general range of MSA population are Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee (throwing the Packers in there for Milwaukee as a lot of Packers support and season ticket holders come from there). Vegas is nothing like those three. Tourists following their team can only get you so far.

And that will go a lot farther for an NFL game than an MLB series.
The visiting crowd visiting vegas for a baseball series would be pretty minimal most of the time.
