Agreed. Pretty soon Serie A will be much more comparable to the Bundesliga than La Liga or the EPL.

they have 18 games yet to be played, their best players are returning to full health, they lose no one to the ACN, and they're 4 points behind 4th place Tottenham.

I would say so.

Out of the champions league this year... doesn't look like they will even qualify for next year.

I would bet they don't end up in the top 4 at the end of the season.

Oh, and they had to come from behind to draw READING today.

Sad times.

LOL.

I just don't see it happening... Especially the longer Benitez is on the side lines. Alonso was a huge loss. Torres is great but very fragile. Kuyt is getting old. Lucas is useless to a top 4 team. Gerrard hasn't been Gerrard this year.

I just don't see it.

Lucas has been fantastic this year. Honestly, outside of Reina, he's arguably been our most consistent performer. Each match he gets better and better.

Gerrard has just not been anything close to what's needed. Today especially. I know he got the goal (thank god) but outside of that he was terrible.

Torres is half-fit and he's still outstanding. Problem is he never gets fed in the right areas and other teams are beating him to death without repercussions.

Quite simply, something is wrong. They were clearly the 2nd best team today to a bottom of the table Championship squad. They can't string together more than three passes without losing possession.

Worst of all they're lacking heart. The result vs. Aston Villa was fantastic but the goal was fairly lucky. Even still after an uplifting result like that, they can't come out and batter a shite side. There's no good explanation for it.

I still hate days when I can't watch Liverpool play, but I really wish I could look forward to better performances.

There's still 18 games to be played. It's basically the midpoint of the season. Anything can happen between now and then, to Liverpool and especially those above them.

Lucas has actually played very well for Liverpool so far, as far as his debutant season as a starter. He looked questionable at first, but often times he has been one of the best, if not the best, player for Liverpool.

Depth has hurt Liverpool more than anything. I believe Benitez is an excellent coach, but he hasnt had the personnel to stay tacked to the top of the table.

Still too early to conclude how a team will finish the season

Great timing on this thread considering we couldn't tally against them the other day.

against Villa was the best I've seen Liverpool play in awhile. I thought it was a great game overall actually.

Played at a breakneck pace, and no horrible performers from either team.

Thankfully Rovers are as bad as they are now and it worked out for us to bounce back today.

That's the thing with Villa. It's never the defense that is the problem but sometimes we just cannot put a shot on goal (or when we do we manage to put it right where the keeper can get to it.)

Have to give it to Liverpool for keeping us quiet but these are losses that we always seem to end up on the wrong side of.

especially at this point in the season, just hope it's not an all out collapse like last year.

You got that right. I like to think I'm patient with Marty and that he has us heading in the right direction but it's never easy. I'm a lot more comfortable when we're at Villa Park but we have come out some days with just a really lazy effort up front.

I can't complain though. At least we're relevant and in the mix.

I never see a lazy up front effort, I just see O'Neill playing standard English soccer.

Constantly hoofing it up there and keeping the ball in the air. To me, it's ugly as hell to watch and Liverpool lately reminds me of it.

I don't have a lot to cry about so it's nitpicking at this point. We've gotten a lot out of this team this year. It's still wait and see though. We just need to continue to play at a high level and it's yet to be proven that we can do that throughout an entire season.

So I'm content and anxious at the same time. Typical life of a Villa supporter.

someone needs to watch that video I posted. It's awesome (I think) even if you're not a Liverpool fan.

I swear I could watch it 20 times a day
