Good post.
Sounds like you think rugby should be bigger...

I mean there's what, 4-7 shots on goal on average in most games? I think the USA had 1 shot on goal against Mexico back in March in a 0-0 draw.
Yeah, a 0-0 tie between the US and Mexico is sure to get the sport going in this country.
and this kind of sums of a great deal of the problem in a nutshell
soccer is not egalitarian, and it doesn't strive to be. there is also context/history a lot of 'murkans miss
Mexico rarely loses and doesn't tie often in Mexico City. a tie there is impressive. Mexico is also much better than the US, so a tie is really good. we bunkered and played defense and eliminated their advantage. it was a good game

If soccer took away offsides
this would make it worse, but people who don't understand soccer LOVE to bring this up as a solution
never fails

I you did away with offsides, there wouldn't be any one-on-ones with the keeper.

Really depends on your definition of "worse," tbh.
Not personally advocating for or against btw.

yeah it would be a game of packing each box and long balls/crosses into the box

Because that's the point of the whole game?
Yes, but it's the same in every other sport. You don't watch football or hockey just for the touchdowns and goals. The plays between goals can be just as entertaining as the goals themselves.

there's too much flopping in soccer

Eliminating offsides would most likely result in less goals.

The evidence is pretty damning against the NFL that they completely ignored their duty of care.

what duty of care?
why didn't the union collectively bargain for this? i'm like 99% positive they waived all claims outside of their CBA

I'd not that bad. Mostly Italians and the Spanish.

When we broke away from England was Soccer a sport?
I do know that cricket was, and thus we evolved it into baseball

I think the thing most Americans can't wrap their heads around is the lack of an intermediate reason to cheer. Look at our major sports:
1. Football: There are 100+ plays a game where either side gives their fans a reason to cheer. The plays are clear and easily documented.
2. Basketball: Scoring is so abundant, there are tons of opportunities to cheer.
3. Baseball: Each pitch provides a reason to cheer.
Soccer just doesn't have that and a lot of Americans can't get past it IMO. While it's easy to see that a guy that went 4 for 4 in a 1-0 baseball game that he lost had a good game, it's tougher to exactly pinpoint how well a guy played that created a ton of changes in a 0-0 soccer match.
I think this is one of the reasons I like it so much. It is so much more open and free. It is so different than the other American sports in that way. The coach has less involvement, the players are more free to do different things.

Don't think it'd be much more "boring" than it is now, tbqh.

teams would just pack the respective boxes and kick the shite out of the ball downfield, basically
england would love that shite
england would love that shite

I honestly think Soccer could really be something in the United States if we had world class talent teams a la Champions League.
If I was going to make a prediction on what sport will make the jump in the next 30 years, I'd got with Lax.
