If the same rules were in effect today, Jordan's salary would be worth $66.6 million, based on adjusted average payroll numbers. $66.6 million!

Even more proof that Jordan is the devil...

I'd front load his contract if I could.

can't do that in the NBA

that's why these contracts exist. those final 2 years are basically subsidizing the lack of market rates on the first 2

Carmelo is getting $130/5yrs and I believe that's the highest total in the league now. I think Lillard has a crazy total too.

AD had the highest total ever until the All-NBA teams were announced.

Why didn't Pippen get a bigger contract?

That was my first thought too. He was making less than Luc Longley and half as much as Ron Harper

he's already a 4.

and as for sliding in, Rachel Nichols wants you to take that back right now...

We're also not thinking of it in the proper context, which is why it'd be great if we did this by % of the cap.

That's important to consider, but $40-$50M is still a frick ton of money regardless of the cap. It doesn't have to be spent if the Cavs don't want to spend it.

There was no maximum salary rule, and teams were allowed to go over the $26.9 million salary cap to re-sign their own free agents.

Could you imagine how much money guys would be getting currently if they hadn't changed this? Insane.

Wasn't Jordan making more than that his last couple of years with the Bulls? And that was 20 years ago.

But it really doesn't matter. If the goal is to win, then you have to pay to play. The cap isn't going up arbitrarily, it's going up because the NBA just got a MASSIVE infusion of cash.

did you not read the rest of it? Cleveland is a unique scenario. He probably has an under the table ownership deal in place, along with his not so secret GM role.

naw

the cap is based off % of revenue

so $40-50M should be judged as it relates to the cap, because then it derrivitavely relates to revenue

Yeah that's the issue. It you want 32 year old LeBron you'll have to pay him 200 over 5 or 150/4, roughly.

You pay max for Lebron, there's no debate to have.

Did we already forget about the Finals? You're likely to get a couple years of that, and a coulpe more years of top 5-10 in the game, as opposed to the alternative... what are we even discussing right now?

It's not like it's magically going up either, teams will have more money to spend.

Considering LeBron turns even the shittiest roster into title contenders, I think pretty much every team in the league would offer him that if they could.

He is that good.

Lebron turns every team into title contenders instantly, and he turns probably 20 teams into title favorites. Who gives a frick what he's making when he's old and broken? If you asked me as a Pelicans fan if I would take 2 or 3 years of solid Bron in exchange for 2 or 3 years of not so great, cap annhilating bron, I couldn't sign up fast enough.

Trade, sign and trade, or walk. I'm not actually going to pay him that much.
