Baseball is a bit different because:

A: there's no cap

and

B: Contracts are so much longer. Mega deals in baseball could have a guy who's 5+ years past his prime making the most money. NBA doesn't have that problem, generally.

We're talking about totally different things.

My point was based on the NBA cap exploding (even when adjusted for inflation) due to increasing TV revenues.

You know the people who say that the NBA is dying....

I think so, too.

I also think I missed all these people saying basketball is dying.

Same here. Pretty sure no one said basketball was dying during the Bulls dynasty in the 90's.

There's a few diehards/retards who still say basketball sucks since Jordan retired and that the MLB is more popular.

There have been years inbtween the Bulls dynasty and now? Or did we just time travel from 98 to 2016.

So which years were these anonymous MLB and NHL nerds saying this?

ETA: I've heard that argument about the MLB, but never about the NBA. The NBA has moved from superstar to superstar.

You used the salary cap from 97-98 to make your point.

Please elaborate
Despite being a physical freak of nature, Lebron James is not immune to the natural break down of the body. His speed and power are going to naturally decrease. His energy is going to decrease as well. I can't see him playing at a peak level for more than two years.

can't do that in the NBA

that's why these contracts exist. those final 2 years are basically subsidizing the lack of market rates on the first 2
Yea, I know very little about NBA contracts. That is why I said "if I could".

He doesn't strike me as someone that will try to fit a square peg into a round hole. When he can't bowl over everyone I think he'll sink a lot of time into his jumper and learn to play beneath the rim more, like a better version of Zach Randolph.

Why didn't Pippen get a bigger contract?

My guess was it was a result of him quitting on the team. It gets whitewashed away since Jordan came back, but it was pretty damn bad what he did, especially for that time.

I don't see how a team could possibly have enough assets for LeBron.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded 3 Karl Anthony Townses for LeBron.

In that deal, Cleveland still gets fleeced.

Of course not. But considering he's played more minutes in the 1st 13 seasons than any one other than Wilt, we can say he's a little "less immune" than virtually every other player we've ever seen.

But peak level for Lebron is the 2nd highest level we've ever seen. He can lose a good bit and still be the best player in the NBA. he can lose even more than that and still be top 5-10 and worht a max contract.

If he really cared about Cleveland and winning championships, he'd play for free.

I don't have a good reason but I figured others would balk at it, and some have.
