Healy bossed that stage, was impressive to see a dude just take the risk with 26 miles left and solo it. Don’t see it too often anymore and was shocked at the lack of urgency in the break after it.

Sometimes I wonder at the tactics of riders. For no one to chase then play cat and mouse until it was too late. All the riders in the break had the quality except maybe Barta to win out the break solo

I said it a few days ago, but bring that back and I’ll pay $100 for that coverage

Crash. Almeida was caught into it.

MVDP dropped by Wellens. Tadej wins sprint vs Jonas

Almeida has a "bit of a fractured rib" according to him, but should be OK to continue.

I am really looking forward to next Thursday to see how everyone rides the big mountains.

My thought is if I’m Visma am I committing everything to Jonas when the big mountains come or does having Matteo well positioned make them hesitant to this. If Jonas cracks are you having Matteo pace him or is he following Pog?

I know Jonas is the clear leader of the team but so far he hasn’t truly shown he’s much better than Matteo

Another hard stage with only seven there at the end. Pog and Vin looked pretty even today. Monday’s stage probably starts the real tour with a jagged route in the mastiff central up and down all day and hot conditions. This weekend is so not worthy of a tour weekend. Guess the payoff is a nice Monday stage.

It could have been a calculated move by Pog to wait until the line was in sight to launch for the win today but it did seem unusual that he got out of the saddle very early in the climb when the pace started ramping up. So maybe he wasn't having the best day, at least for him.

Milan w his first ever TDF stage win. Beat WVA in the sprint and it wasn’t particularly close.

Rouleur publisher Cassina announced today that all of or at least most of their digital content will now be behind a paywall effective immediately.
Fantastic print mag, Fantastic digital presentation and articles.
Was a matter of time I guess, and I ABSOLUTELY understand why.
I’ll buy the print mags I like but will opt out on the digital membership.
Will miss being able to read the articles directly from their click bait emails.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t this tour going up Ventoux and have a mountain ITT?

I’d like to see a TTT up a major mountain once I do like having an ITT on a major climb also

What a stage if you’re a MVDP fan, which I am. Just a little too much to pull it off with just MVDP and Rickaert. If ADC could have gotten one more rider in the break they could have done it. Or even if a rider from another team would have been there. 173k was still pretty amazing.

Congrats to Merlier, also, for out-sprinting Milan and taking the stage. And Jonas Rickaert gets a well deserved most combative award.

What a colossal waste of energy for MVDP today. He had to know this was always going to be sprint. Only thing I will say is, he made it really tight. They caught it in the last k. Oh well, tomorrow could be fireworks. Visma has been really push UAE trying to wear out their team. With the loss of Almieda retirement, Timmy might have to defend more than he would like. Can they crumble him again...I have no idea. But I believe they're going to try. What a beautiful spectacle the tour is...
ETA: I get why the shampoo crew did this today. They had limited options for wins going forward.
