someone who plays a different sport to get drafted in the 5th round.

Not sure why this is so hard to grasp. That fact that softball evolved from baseball, there's not a ton of overlap. It's NOT Girl Baseball. It's an entirely different sport.

And that said, like all other sports, if there was Men's Fast Pitch Softball in College, those players would be better than her as well...but at least they'd be coming closer to comparing apples to apples.

And like you said...there are something like 40 rounds in the MLB draft, and this dude wants a MLB team to use a 5th round pick on some chick who's never face a pitcher throwing overhand?

This doesn't even address the completely different weight distribution between a baseball bat and a softball bat where the weight is more centered instead of being out at the tip of the bat.

I'm sure she could find an independent league team to give her a look if she wanted to, and the writer says she doesn't know if Jocelyn even wants to play baseball or not. There's a team in Sonoma that signed a few women a few years ago and hyped it up but they didn't last.

So this year, I’m using this platform to issue a challenge to Major League Baseball teams. Every single team could use another bat, especially as offense continues to fall across the league. A fifth round draft pick carries a slot value of between $300,000 and $400,000. Even for the Astros, that’s less than ten percent of your total draft pool; for teams like the Pirates and Tigers, it’s only two percent. You can afford to offer to draft Jocelyn Alo in the fifth round, pay slot value, and see if she’ll sign.
If you're going to go through with this horrible idea, why would you do it in the 5th round when you can do it in the last round of the draft? Or sign her as an undrafted free agent, or whatever MLB calls it?

He jus wants this girl to get that money, that's the only reason. So dumb.

If they're good enough let them play, but they have to prove that they are good enough and not be some charity case.

I am fine with this. Cancel professional softball and let women try to play in the MLB. Same goes for the WNBA. Cancel it and let them play in the NBA and NBADL.

Give them what they want. If they claim to be equals, they will make a team and earn those nice minimum salaries in those leagues.

In fact, do this in all sports, period. All women's records at the olympics that do not beat the men's record should be wiped from the record books.

Let em try.

I say make all sports mixed gender.

The minute they do that, the minute female athletes no longer play professional sports.

This article is one of the absolute dumbest pieces of shite I have ever seen, however, "ole girl's" OPS was not 1.085. You might want to check that slash line again and recalibrate.
