Am i missing something here? Ive been seeing Pau get mentioned more and more latley like the guy is a laker legend. I dont get it. He was a laker for 6 years and only was an all-star for 3 of those. He won 2 championships, but that is because of Kobe. Seems we set the bar low now for jersey retirement.

Probably a weaker jersey retirement but its not like the lakers havent done so in the past. Like with jamaal wilkes

Im sure he was a valuable piece on a championship team, but does that deserve jersey retirement? For only 6 years of work

He likely deserves it but let’s be honest, his connection to Kobe probably helped a little

Especially helped getting it fast tracked before he has even gotten into the HOF

The bar was set with them retiring Jamaal Wilkes‘ jersey.

As a Laker, Wilkes averaged 18 pts, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists with a PER of 16.7

Gasol averaged 18 pts, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists with a PER of 21.4

If Pau doesn’t get traded to the Lakers, Kobe’s gone and who know’s what state the franchise is in

I want to retire the entire practice of retiring numbers. Ring of fame for the really good / franchise staples, statues for the legends.

I mean, that's a no brainer jersey retirement for every team in the league outside of the Lakers and Celtics.

Pau did a lot before the Lakers as well, so he's a high quality player.

It's a bit of a stretch but do think he deserves a good recognition as he was a very big part of that franchise, especially during their 2010 run.

Kobe has been pretty adamant on without Pau they don’t win those championships. Plus like the other posters said Kobe had a lot to do with getting Pau in the rafters next to him

Well shite, the Celtics retired Garnett's #5, and he was there just as long as Gasol and only won 1 title. I am not saying that either doesn't deserve it, I'm just saying...

The C's didn't even retire Allen's 20. He was just as important as Garnett and Peirce. Just there 1 yr less than KG.

Pau will have a greater impact and legacy with the Lakers than LeBron when it’s all said and done. He’s leading the way already and I don’t see LeBron passing him.

I rarely hear anyone bring up the covid ring he and davis won there. I think when its all written in the books, all they'll talk about Lebron's time in LA will be underachieving as a team, and that he broke Kareem's all time scoring record as a Laker.
