I just don't see how you can place primary blame on a guy who participated in two games when 6 everyday players went a combined 24/161.

because the dodgers lost 4 games. 2 of the 4 losses came in extra innings in games that were winnable

the other 2 losses were Yu darvish starts in which he gave up 9 total runs and didnt see the third inning. He put his team in a huge hole twice. The dodgers never had a shot in either game he started.

as bad as turner and bellinger were, turner won game 1 with a 2 run homer. bellinger doubled in the go ahead run in the game 4 win. kershaw, despite blowing game 5, won game 1 in dominating fashion. Roberts mismanaged game 2, but perfectly handled game 6.

And then you have Darvish, who contributed nothing.

So if the dodgers were down 1-0 or 2-0 in the third, with 2 on and 0 out, you don't think maybe they try to advance the runners rather than play for the big inning?

There was no need to play for the big inning that early. That's the point you're glossing over. Absolutely, being down matters and changes approaches. But that doesn't change the fact that they had plenty of opportunities early on

In the first two innings they had two on with 1 out and got nothing against a pitcher that was not performing very well in his own right.

down 5-0, they may have felt they needed to play for the big inning, which is why they didn't play small ball.

which goes back to my point- the primary blame needs to go to the guy that put them in that 5-0 hole, after doing the same in a game 3 loss.

Darvish was no prize, the Dodgers choked at the plate when it counted.

They scored 1 run in Game 7 and stranded a ton of runners, especially in the early innings. Hell they left the bases loaded in the 1st and 2 on in the second and got zero runs out of it.

Don't disagree-Darvish flat out sucked. But it's tough not to wonder what happens if Bellinger doesn't launch one into the dugout in the first. Not saying Darvish suddenly tightens up on his breaking ball but that throw was a big, big mistake.

And I didn't think there was any way in hell that a 5-spot would win the game. Credit to the Astros' arms but the lack of Dodger offense was stunning to me. That's baseball, I suppose.

Then they didn't have the mental acumen to recognize the situation or the fortitude to not let the moment get too big. The offense shite the bed just as much as Darvish.

The Dodgers scored 1 run and left a million people on base in game 7. To blame it all on Darvish is weak shite. Never mind that he pitched very well in his 2 other postseason appearances before the WS.

Darvish could have played his best game and they still would have lost with only 1 run.

Or Bellinger setting a WS record for strikeouts.

Or Roberts completely mangling pitching subs in game 2.

Or Puig going 0.167

Or Kershaw not being the greatest pitcher when it counts.

Turner going .130 or so was probably the biggest issue after Darvish. Kenley blowing game 2 was huge. But Darvish really was the biggest problem. He pitches like he did in the NLDS and NLCS and his last 4 starts of the regular season....in just one of the WS games he started and Dodgers may have won.

This was the book on Yu in Texas.

Electric stuff... but some terrible outings when he couldn't control it and over-corrected with softballs.

I actually hated to see that... he seems like a good dude and paid for a nice newspaper ad to Rangers fans when he left.

No way he stays in LA after this, right? Market value definitely took a hit

I agree, Yu seems like a nice guy and took a lot of unwarranted criticism while he was here. That being said I hope JD doesn’t try to re-sign. Not worth it for a team that unfortunately will be under .500 for the next season or two.

I doubt he returns to LA. But I still think he gets a $150M deal at least.
