I disagree. I don't care what era, you can still expect people to be decent.

Yes it was

I believe TMZ on TV is a station or Fox affiliate in Los Angeles

just stop. You're talking about a teenage girl's basketball tourney, not game 7 of the NBA Finals. Kobe is not going to be berating the pilot of his aircraft to take off, weather be damned. The helicopter was how he had been getting around LA for years. It was just another flight for him.

1. He could have been salty that TMZ was able to confirm this before his own department

So you're saying TMZ got their info from a source from the first responders that's literally responsible for handling the accident and you say that they may not have confirmed it yet at that point?

Got it.

This sense of entitlement is just gross as hell.

When people ask why the media sucks so much in this country, the people in this thread defending the media's lack of ethical standards in this thread is one big example as to why that is.

The media has brow beaten you into thinking their scummy conduct is morally acceptable.

Who says it’s entitlement? You live in front of the camera, it shouldn’t be a shock that they’re around at your death

This has to be the biggest sports star to die at such a young age even though he recently retired. I remember Drazen Petrovic (sp) for the Nets dying tragically, but it wasn’t as big as Kobe and there was no social media around. Prayers for his family during this rough time. I’ll always remember him scoring 81 in a game. That’s my biggest memory of him.

Lawsuits will be coming. 9 people died and since they were going to practice I imagine more than just two were girls on the team. Its very plausible Kobe told all the parents have your girls here at my house and we will helicopter over.

The weather was bad and Kobe doesn't seem like a guy who would be okay with missing practice because a pilot said they cant fly. If I am a parent and my daughter died under those circumstances I would sue the hell out of Kobe's estate.

I love Kobe, but with all we hear about private plane and copter crashes it was very irresponsible of him flying people to basketball practice under adverse weather conditions. He was flat out liable as soon as anyone got on that helicopter.

Was that on tv? I saw a screen shot of TMZ’s website. I started following as soon as this thread popped up here today. I happened to be in the MSB when this thread started. A lot of posters kept arguing because tv didn’t report it until about 30-35 minutes after tmz.

Someone else said they have a tv channel in LA, is that true?

I doubt it was a first responder who leaked it to TMZ. I don't want to be graphic, but a high speed aircraft crash into the side of a mountain followed by a fire does things to human bodies. It's very unlikely that a first responder recognized Kobe or anyone else in the wreckage. The debris field is on the side of a mountain also, so locating the tail number and getting it to TMZ to let them do the work doesn't seem plausible either. The source more than likely came from the airport where someone would have had access to the manifest.

I vividly remember watching this moment unfold as a kid. MJ, AI, and Kobe has some of the biggest balls ever in the NBA

I've never been a basketball fan so I'm not invested in that way, however I understand what a legend Kobe was. And if it had only been Kobe that died today that still would have hit me a little, but the fact that his daughter was with him is what really makes this tragic for me. Kobe seemed like a great father and he had a beautiful daughter with an insanely bright future and now she's gone at just 13. Horrible.

My first post in this thread wasn't limited to just TV but social media on smart phones and internet as well. That covers all the ways that the family could've found out if the police didn't notify them first.

But yes, I do believe TMZ has a channel in LA. Fox in fact.

But it doesn't matter anyway, the Sheriff literally called TMZ out for breaking the story before they could notify next of kin.
