I mean OSU couldn’t stop anyone’s passing game last season. Add in the loss of 2 of their top DL with covid protocols and OSU wasn’t holding Bama under 40 no matter what

OSUs pass defense last year is not a good gauge at all. They ran an fing 4-4 against Bama because they had no confidence in their secondary. Yep 3 DBs against 3/4 wrs and Harris

I get that but the point being that the whole "Mac is only good cause he's on a super team" argument kind falls apart when Bama was down 3 All-American caliber players and still scored 17-points in 3 possessions in the National Championship

Check the rivals and 24/7 list? It wasn't because of the stars under the helmet.

Actually... it still was. Go look at his OL.
His OTs were the #1 OT from 2017 and 2019. Both top 10 players in the country.
His Center was the #4 OT from 2016 and a top 100 player. His Guards where both high 4 stars, and both older and experienced.

His RB was the #2 player in the country in 2017 and a senior. His best WR was a high 4* and a senior.

He has about 4-5 teammates on offense that will be picked before Fields first teammate on offense.

If I was you, I'd pay a lot more attention to the superior coaching and player development aspect of the BAMA team than that statistical nonsense.

Yeah it’s “statistical nonsense” that you get all the best players and years later they turn out to be good.

robably he is. But I’m saying if he slips somehow

I want to see where Felipe ends up

He would be a good fit in Philly or Seattle as a backup guy

I too am interested in what CFL team Felipe Franks plays for

Dude could barely handle making one read for Florida how is he going to play in the NFL?

Oh I was saying in October last season that I liked Mac's accuracy.

I was more saying that scoring through the air against OSU wasn't anything to celebrate

As a Niners fan I want Fields at 3. If we stayed at 12 and drafted Mac then ok but not at 3. I think Fields in Shannahan's offense with the skill players we have and one of the best O-Lines could be fun to watch.

That’s a stretch... some of these players would be 1st round talents regardless of program

Problem was that Justin Field couldn't hit the simple stuff in the NC game. BAMA had 2 teams go up and down the field last season for the entire game against our defense. Ohio State wasn't one of them. Ole Miss and Florida were.

Agree he missed some easy ones. He has proven he can hit those in dozens of other games, so that was strange. Being without Sermon to take pressure off him hurt as well as Wyatt Davis being out for large portions of the game. He also could have been WAY more injured than anyone at OSU wanted to let on

Look, nobody has a crystal ball, and mostly around these parts arguing players is like arguing politics. I'm just saying there is absolutely no video or statistical reason Mac Jones should be thought of in lesser terms, or more accurately, less than the 3rd pick in the NFL draft, than Justin Fields. None whatsoever.

My first reaction when he got hurt against Clemson was that he had broken ribs.

Well starting for one year has always been a huge knock on people in the past. Not saying it's valid but there are always reasons to knock on players. Lawrence and Fields were good for more than one season, so that could absolutely be a reason why they are taken earlier

Yeah Jones is could have definitely thrown 215 yards and 3 TDS to Chris Olave against Alabama’s defenses

That’s a reasonable take.

I know you always want to back your guy, but the whole argument is that 10 of your other guys were so fricking good Mac Jones looked like a star.

Maybe. Or it could be a disaster if he doesn't substantially improve on the pre-snap reads and handling the blitz. As you recall Kaepernick had absolutely no idea what to do once defenses figured out all they needed to do was throw his timing off by jamming his receivers at the line and sending 5.

Athleticism at the position is lagniappe. The recipe for continued success at the position is between the ears - pre-snap reads, composure against the blitz, limiting stupid throws.

Mac has better prospects on that front. I can't be pissed if he's the guy, but I can be annoyed the Niners gave up so much to get him.

Shanahan can probably succeed with anyone though. Garoppolo is statistically the best play-action QB in the league for a reason.
